Look who is ONE today!
It’s so hard to believe this milestone is already here. Many of you may not have been blog readers a year ago. And some of you are loyal “followers” and may remember when this little guy came into our lives …this sweet year has sure gone by fast. Such a wonderful year. Here’s a little photo tribute for our Sweet Pea. I can’t wait to spend the day celebrating with him! I’ll post some birthday pictures later in the week!

I’ve been involved in some serious fun behind the scenes. A little journey has begun with a group of my blogland friends….a necklace round robin!! What a wonderful concept…collaborating with friends who I email or whose blogs I visit daily. Even if I can’t meet these ladies in person, we will touch each other’s creations and work together from a distance in creating truly special keepsakes. A little piece of each of us will travel from VA, PA, Germany and France.
We will all post a little bird image on our blogs to symbolize the round robin that’s underway. I thought this vintage picture portrays the group just perfectly…Esther, Me (I think I’ll call dibs on the little blue bird on the left!), Sharon, Veronique and Renate. We’ve decided not to post pictures of the necklaces in progress because we’d love to be surprised when we see each other’s contributions. Rather than add to an existing base, we’re going to create our necklaces differently. We have each picked a theme or color scheme and created a section (maybe about 6″ or so) and then will mail it to the next person to add on to. Each of us will have our own section in creating the long necklace. Oh, and we’re including a little journal to go along with our pieces..no small detail there! I have to admit I worked on my journal even more than my necklace!! Remember, art journals are my new found interest. I had fun with gesso and worked my way through half a tub of gel medium…yippeeee! I’ve learned a lot working on that journal and sure burned the midnight oil.
Look what has already arrived… the first necklace section from speedy Esther. What a surprise when I opened the box (now how can I possibly add to her work??)….I’ll share the non-round robin contents of this big box in an upcoming post! I can’t wait to share pictures of the finished pieces in a few months…I’m sure there will be many stories along the way!

I have a feeling many of you are just like me….there’s always something new calling your name. Etching? Enameling? Soldering? Okay, I know many of you can do all three. The thing that has caught my eye recently is the world of art journaling. Papercrafting is actually new to me…so I have a lot to learn. Many of my blog land friends are mixed media artists, so there is a wealth of inspiration (and advice) out there.
One of the fundamental techniques to use in papercrafts is stamping. Now I have my fair share of stamps, but what to do with them…that was the question. I remembered the beautifully stamped journal that my fellow Charmsters friend Maureen brought to Art and Soul to use as a class notebook. I emailed her to ask about what she used to journal…and she so kindly suggested sending me a sample. Look what I received in the mail the other day! I didn’t want to open the package, it was so pretty! And would you believe, none of the postage stamps ended up getting marked. Inside I found a wonderful book…ready for me to stamp away in. Just look at all of the beautiful techniques Maureen used for inspiration…and I bet this didn’t take her long to do either!
Luckily there is a brick and mortar stamp store just around the corner from my house. I stopped in Angela’s Happy Stamper shop today and entered a whole new underground world. There were ladies filling there baskets with stamps and talking about things that were foreign to me. I was out of place. Must be how a newbie feels when going in to a bead store for the first time. I was amazed at the class calendar and hope to start at the beginning and take their intro. class next month. After all, who knows when to use pigment ink versus dye ink?? Until then, I stocked up on some great back-issue magazines that were all marked down 50%…Somerset Studio, Altered Art, and Cloth, Paper, Scissors.
