Blogging for Bliss…on the beach

snoozing-on-the-beach

Playing in the sun can really wipe you out.  Just look at my little guy!   I couldn’t believe it when he fell asleep sitting upright on my lap.  At times like this, I was able to sneak in a little beach reading.  And I’m not talking about mindless romance novels, no!  I had my copy of  Blogging For Bliss by Tara Frey tucked in my tote bag and finished reading it today.

I really enjoyed reading the interviews with bloggers sprinkled throughout the book.   It was insightful to read how others got started with their blogs….whether they have committed to blogging daily or only when they feel like it…how they chose their blog names….what blogs they read themselves…   It’s been fun discovering new blogs ~ here are a few favorites:   Artsy Mama, Blessed and Distressed, and Rebecca Sower.   There are still more I would like to visit.

Even though I’ve been blogging for 2 years…I have so much to learn yet.  I’ve been a bit of a casual blogger, combining both my little world of jewelry design with tidbits about my family life.  And through this online endeavor, I’ve met so many incredible people who share similar passions.  I’ve been reminded in reading Tara’s book about what makes a blog one that readers enjoy visiting….a big part seems to be in the pictures.  I’m sure you’re not surprised.  When you think of your favorite blogs, I bet they include lots of pretty pictures.    Tara shared her findings from her own online poll, and reported that 91% would rather see a picture in the blog post that doesn’t “match” the post rather than no picture at all!  Good thing I was lucky enough to get one of those 30 spaces in Susan Tuttle’s upcoming VisualPoetry workshop…I need all of the photography help I can get! 🙂 {I am so excited about that workshop and will share more when it starts next month}.

If you haven’t picked this book yet, check it out!   Especially if you’re new to the scene and thinking of starting your own blog.   This one has hit the tops on the Amazon charts in the crafts category.

Thank you for stopping by my humble little blog…it sure means a lot to me!

Have a great weekend!

You have a very interesting blog. Lots of clear pictures and many colors and just overall things to glance at. I’m a beginner at blogging so I will take this advice to good use. I’ve wondered how much personal info to include in my blog and if that’s appropriate. I guess it all depends on what you want to portray and if you want to use it more for business or not. I love seeing pictures of family, vacations, really anything. It’s a little window into other people’s lives. I’ll see if I can find this gem of a book and I am always open to any advice on my blog, good or bad! Enjoy the beach!

Hi Cindy, I think your blog is great-I love your family pics, especially the ones of chubby round cheeks, and your jewelry, of course! I will visit the book shop today to pick up the Bliss book. I’ve seen it at B&N but never looked at it. Thanks for the tip and have a relaxing day at the beach.

Hey Cindy!
I reserved a copy of this book at my local Barnes and Noble…going to pick it up tonight. Thanks for the recommendation! I am looking forward to looking through it.

Hi, Cindy. I must admit I look at the pictures first on your blog then I read what you wrote! I love seeing how the boys are growing! We had “water play” at day care today with 14 babies ages 5 months to 16 months. It was “exciting” I think is the word. I’m not sure I ever did dry out by the end of the day at 6 pm! But I think it was a success. We have 2 small hard plastic pools which I filled with water in the playground and then there was some kind of “squiggly” hose attachement which some of the older babies enjoyed! The more adventurous ones headed for the slides etc. and some enjoyed trying to sneak bits of the chopped rubber ground cover into their mouths! They weren’t so happy when we came inside and had to change diapers and redress everyone and of course a few wanted to eat “RIGHT NOW”! You could tell by the volume! They also took good naps too, but unfortunately the grown ups didn’t get to do that part! Took about 75 pictures so I’m not sure when I’ll be printing those! Please continue to blog and post photos of the family. Love, Madeline
