Come join me for a down-home festival, in a sweet little town on the Eastern Shore. We discovered Berlin earlier this year when we went for the town Easter egg hunt (posted about it here). The 2nd annual Peach Festival took place today, a tribute to the peaches that helped shape the economy at the last turn of the century.
Coming from the suburbs and hustle and bustle of the nation’s capital, my husband and I truly enjoy the small-town community feel in Berlin. I think I spoke to more strangers today than I would in a month back home. Maybe an exaggeration, but if you live in the city, you can appreciate what I mean. Let’s take a look at the festival, and some good ole-fashioned fun…and just imagine you can hear the fiddler playing….
Strolling down main street, you can see how the whole town got involved. There was a window-decorating contest going on between the businesses. Here are a couple of my favorite windows –
There were plenty of activities for the kids: ice cream shaking and making, a peach toss, and a pie-eating contest!
A local waterfowl artist creating a decoy from wood –
While stopping to enjoy some peach crisp, we discovered not one, but two baby birds who left the nest to attend the festival –
You have to see the peach crisp….sorry to do this to you. Yes, it was scrumptious –
Just look what I found in one of the antique malls! This dear book (almost 100 years old) features FOUR little boys. And would you believe the boys are playing by a peach tree…
Thank you for coming along with me, and visiting one of our favorite American small towns. Have a great week!

Now I’m hungry for spicy sweet peach crisp, and those four overall boys sure do look familiar…hhmmmnnn
What a lovely post. And just look at the author of The Overall Boys – that’s a name and a half!! Loving the dress at the top – such a pretty print. Glad you guys had a grand old day in Berlin!
Sometimes I really wish I would live in America. I am missing these little events over here. We have some too, but there are not enough (or maybe I am just paying enough attention).
That’s my kind of old-fashioned fun! Have you every taken your boys to visit any caves? I think they would love that. At Penn’s cave here in PA you ride through on a boat. There are some great caves in VA, also. Thanks for sharing your wonderful day!
What fun! You provide such excellent pictures…it’s like being there. Love the window decorations. OH…and that peach cobbler…YUM! And the book is such a treasure, very suiting.
Love the window displays! I wish our town would do something like this. They are all fuddydudies and don’t want to put forth the effert. We used to have a fall festival years ago, but not anymore.
And yes, now I’m hungry for peach crisp.
Glad you enjoyed your getaway!
Thats so nice what a great weekend Cindy! Whats better than home town festivals! We give our children Memories and you do the best. Those window displays how sweet. Think Im going to make a pie today!
That sounds like my kind of festival! I adore peaches…I have been getting them at the farmer’s market all summer. My dad used to have peach trees when we were growing up and the smell/taste always makes me think of him!
We have passed through Berlin on our way to the beach…next time we will have to take a day trip 🙂 How was the ice-cream?
I really wish we could have come to that with you (but thankfully the birthday party went well!). Looks like it was really cool, especially the ice cream shaking!!!
We moved from Wilbraham, Mass. 4 years ago and our town use to have a peach festival every August. The town was filled with peach farms and had this festival to celebrate the harvest. It was always such a fun event, I miss it terribly.
It looks as though your family had a great time…and the book was such a fantastic find, lucky you!
What a great little festival! Those are my favorite kinds because they are just so fun to take part in 🙂
Thank you for sharing those wonderful pictures!! It looks like you guys had a great time.
Sheer perfection this slice of Americana. Thanks for sharing!

What a peach of a day!! We are soon off to Georgia and I am ready to enjoy their peach bounty. Isn’t is so wonderful to get back to the simple way of life and the simple joy’s it can bring. Glad the boys got to experience all the fun. I am really needing some peach crisp….
Oh, look how fun! There’s a peach festival every spring in a Phoenix suburb too and we always go. The peach pancakes are awesome!
Wow! What a great time! And that peach crisp looks too yummy.
