Celebrating

by Cindy on October 4, 2010

This weekend marked the 10th anniversary of being a parent here in our house.  TEN years…now we’re in the double digits!  Our 2000 baby turned 10!!   How does one chose to celebrate their birthday when turning 10 (hmm…I really don’t remember many specifics about mine)??

To kick off the weekend our big guy insisted on attending a camp out with area Cub Scout packs at a great big Camporall.  For a boy, what could beat BB target shooting, archery, and whittling your own walking stick?  Let’s not forget building a campfire and those traditional S’mores.  By the time the S’mores were happening, I had returned to the comfort of home with the non-birthday boys.

After lunch at our favorite Japanese restaurant, yesterday we took a trip in to DC.  When we asked our birthday boy what he wanted to do for his big day, he knew exactly where he wanted to go…. to the National Garden.  Now not every 10 year old would chose to look at plants on their birthday, but our guy, he insisted on looking through each section twice to be sure to see EVERY plant there.  It is truly one of his passions.  Where he got the green thumb, I just don’t know.  I ask him now for advice when it comes to anything green that comes in to our house!

This outing gave me the opportunity to pursue one of my passions, and that’s taking plenty of pictures.  I’m putting a bunch right here.

Your photos are always so fantastic! I remember those little box camera ones that we had of our birthdays– yours always look professionally shot! But it’s really about the memories and it’s special your son’s wishes were the ones honored– he makes a great Scout! And knowing how to make a campfire may really come in handy some day.

Happy Birthday to your handsome son!! I absolutely love the photo of you 2! Looks like you had a fabulous weekend…Saturday was a gorgeous day in our neck of the woods, wasn’t it! Gosh, the inspiration you must have gotten from all those gorgeous plants/flowers…that yellow flower with the dark purple leaves is so striking!

How exciting! Birthday’s are the best! Lunch and somewhere special to visit…Looks like you had a great day for visiting the gardens. I’ve never been but your photos are great! And what a great picture of the two of you! I love the expression on his face…too cute!

Isn’t it amazing how fast they grow up? My oldest will be moving into teenager in March… (truthfully, he is already practising his teenagery now… very disconcerting to see how I must have been at his age!). My baby will be in double digits this February. I love that he knows what he is passionate about at this tender age. Wonder-full.
Enjoy the day!

We are so lucky to live right outside of DC. I need to take advantage of it more. I can’t believe Gabriel choose the National Garden as his birthday visit! He’s such a bright and curious child. What a great birthday he had! Love all the photos.

Congratulations, Gabriel! WOW!! I can’t believe it’s been 10 years already! that means Mike and Audra will soon be married 10 years. “You’ve come a long way, baby!!” We had a great week end in Ocean City with wonderful beach weather on Friday and SAturday but Sunday was good for sleeping! Kate’s mother in law and Carrie and I were determined to get a real hot fudge sundae so we ventured down the boardwalk until we found a place open with real ice cream. And we enjoyed every bite even though it was cloudy and cold! It was fun being together and the Quality Inn at 17th on the Boardwalk was wonderful: 3 pools, a restaurant and right on the boardwalk! Thanks for sharing your wonderful life with all of us!

Have I had too much coffee this morning maybe…. but I see the image of a face in the smoke in the campfire photo. Look at the smoke from your son’s waist downward…. do you see it or am I just crazy? See the one eye just at the bottom of his pocket and then the nose and the other eye is behind the piece of firewood.
Love your photos and enjoy the way you share your love and talents through your photography.
Congrats Gabriel!!!
🙂
