Not your everyday afternoon

You may have noticed that I have a hard time sitting still.  Or staying  home.  So the other day when the kids had an early dismissal from school, I thought it would be interesting to take a walkl in a new neighborhood (in other words, explore a little).    I know I’ve been heading to Leesburg a lot lately, but why not when it is less than 45 minutes away.  Strolling the sidewalks that line historic homes is much more interesting than the everyday sights here in suburbia.

I’m more of a picture-taking blog writer.  Expressing myself in words is not my strength….. so here we go again, a gazillion pictures.  I figure that many of you are visiting from the far reaches of the U.S. and abroad, so maybe you’d like to see what we see here in Virginia.  I know when I visit your blogs, I’m always intrigued by where you go and what you see locally.  Its my way of traveling when I can’t.  🙂

I found a great little playground nestled in the historic downtown area, within a very old neighborhood.  We took a walk and ended up at an old landmark, the site of the Old Stone Church and cemetery, dating back to the 1700s.   Now this is not your everyday stroll!

I’d love to return, next time turning a different direction on our walk and finding yet more treasures from our past.  There are so many new places to discover!

What a lovely afternoon you had and what an amazing place just filled with such wonderful history.

You are a wonderful mom! Taking your boys on all these glorious adventures. I know just what you mean about not being able to sit still, it can be so tough. 🙂

I adore the picture with your pup and the No Dogs Allowed sign… it is just great!

Keep up your wonderful style of blogging…. I LOVE your pictures and adventures!

Love your photos, Cindy! So peaceful. Full of serenity.
I love visiting old cemetaries. When I lived in Berlin, there was a lovely cemetary around the corner, with many famous person’s graves and mausoleums, that I visited often.

Poor puppy 🙂 One of my favourite things is cemetaries. I know that sounds kind of creepy weird. But the inscriptions are often interesting on head stones. Did you know that pre-park days, city people went to cemetaries for picnics and outdoor activities? In crowded cities like New York, cemetaries were the only open spaces. On strange little fact left over from my landscape architecture days.

What a beautiful afternoon! I love Virginia, though I haven’t been there in a LONG time! How lucky you are to have so much amazing history around you! Is that your little black and white pooch? We have a little black and white dog too!! Love your pictures!

I LOVE all your picture blogs, and if it weren’t for you, my antiquing blog NEVER would have happened! You inspire me so much.

Why can’t we live closer to each other?

I’m with you Cindy-Visiting different blogs is my way of living vicariously through others and traveling even when I’m too sick sometimes to get up and go to the kitchen or even get out of bed.

Thank you for allowing me to travel to your neck of the woods 🙂

You have taken some beautiful pictures! My favorites are of the cemetery-I absolutely ADORE cemeteries. I’m one of those crazy people who love to just spend their days walking around and observing headstones and the goings-on in different cemeteries xD

Your poor little Shih-Zhu! His tail is down as he reads the sign that he’s not allowed. Don’t they know that a Shih-Zhu is special and not really a dog?

I love your pictures and for sharing your adventures.

Beautiful pictures, once again. I, too, love cemetaries. When we were little we often visited the cemetary where mom’s family was buried. We loved reading the epitaphs, (and still do) and examining all the beautiful monuments! Of course we also prayed for our loved ones who were “planted”there. Thanks for sharing.

Cindy,
Your boys are very lucky to have a mom that doesn’t like to sit still and loves to explore and see new sights. Makes for a very enriching childhood.

I love your photos and as you say it is a wonderful way to show others the beauty of our small slice of America. Many times on our travels we will look up places mention here in blogland.

Wow you have such vision when it comes to your photos, they are so beautifully composed and wonderfully exposed. You make me want to take my camera wherever i go and just snap away. As a fledgling photographer and jewellery maker you are an inspiration for me, thankyou
