Magie Noir

by Cindy on February 12, 2011

I left you last with my BTW post – a picture of brass, pearls, crystal and ribbon.   I have created a couple of jewelry pieces with these components, and guess what they reminded me of?  A fragrance.  Does anyone remember Magie Noir by Lancome?  I wore this perfume for years, and remember its deep and mysterious scent well.  I looked for it online and see that it was first created in 1978 and is still available (the bottle has changed entirely).     It actually reminds me of my Grandmother as that is the perfume I wore back in college when I would visit her house frequently.

Even though it has a holiday-glamour type of look, I think a piece like this could be worn with a nice wool sweater or even a black sundress.  I  love working with the brass and black combination and have named this collection Magie Noir.  I’m saving Magie Noir No.1 for later, but have No.2 to show you today.  I found the perfect prop for styling my photos – an old French tin from one of my Round Robin sisters.

I love that, and how you used that petal end cap!!!!

Cindy, I just LOVE this bracelet! Such a great use of the large petal bead caps! It has such a romantic and vintage feel to it.

Magie Noir… yes, you are right! Looking at this bracelet, I can almost smell it. It was my mother’s perfume and I loved it. The bracelet is Magie Noir – black magic – for the wrist.

The brass and black go wonderfully together, with the pearls adding that extra special touch! It’s all so perfectly balanced, and I agree with the others about the flower bead caps — brilliant!

Very pretty! It makes me think of photos I’ve seen of the 1920’s and 30’s where ladies actually dressed up for no reason.

The French tin is the perfect prop!

Oh, that’s beautiful, especially the composition and flow of it. You know, I think you could go dress up or dress down with this one. I can see it with a black jumper over jeans with black boots. Kind of a weekend out and about piece. The little wisp of black ribbon makes this piece. Love it!

Cindy, This is really beautiful! Love the golden color with the hint of black. I made a bracelet using this combination for the Treasured Snippets workshop I’ll be teaching at Art and Soul Portland. It’s a warm combination!

What a classic beauty that is! I love the touches of black. Elegance personified.

This is a glorious design. It reminds me of something very turn-of-the-century, circa 1910s maybe. The colors and textures definitely have that gilded age splendor. Beautiful, I adore it!

Very cool. I love it.

Stacy Hartis February 13, 2011 at 1:27 pm

That is the only perfume I wear and have for 30 years!! The American bottle is now square, but the European one is still the original shape.
I agree that your piece will go from dressy to jeans and a t.

Cheers,
Stacy
