Join me for a Button Swap Blog Hop!

by Cindy on March 20, 2012

Do you have jars full of buttons?

Do you head straight over to the button lady at the antiques shows?

Or maybe you collect handmade buttons just because they’re beautiful.

If you’re even remotely intrigued with BUTTONS, this Button Swap Blog Hop is calling your name!

Some of you may remember the Button Swap and Blog Hop by Michelle of Beads & Books last  year.  I checked in with Michelle and she wasn’t planning another for this year….and I have been wanting to host one for some time…so here it is!

Let’s have some fun swapping buttons and creating something new.  A little show and tell at the end is the icing on the cake.

Button Swap * Blog Hop

  • Sign ups are open from March 20 to March 25th. Anyone with a blog is welcome to join!  The Button Swap is open to international participants.  If you prefer not to ship internationally, please indicate this when signing up.  Simply leave a comment on this post to sign up.  Please be sure to provide your email in the sign-up form.

  • I will match up partners by March 30th.  Once you receive your partner, please feel free to contact them.  You can share preferences about buttons types if you wish.

  • Select four buttons for your blog partner and mail them by April 20th. What kind of buttons should you send?  Please choose four quality buttons – they do not need to be expensive.  It would be great if at least one was a “special” button in some way – maybe handmade, vintage, or one with a special meaning.  The buttons do not need to be a set.  I’ve posted a few examples in this post.  Once you receive your buttons, blogging about them is optional.

  • Create something with your buttons – you can use all of the buttons or just one.  Your finished piece should include at least one button from the swap.   You can think outside the box and make anything – it does not have to be jewelry!  I made an altered clipboard in the last button swap – you can see the reveal post here.

  • The Blog Hop will start on Sunday, May 13th, 2012.  *(This happens to be Mother’s Day…but it was just so hard to find the “perfect” date).   Please share your button swap creation, and the Swap participant link list on this date.   This date may seem far off, but there are many hops coming up and I also have a few personal deadlines between now and then.  This should give everyone plenty of time to participate.

Any questions?  Please send me an email!

I’ve created a blog badge for the Button Swap Blog Hop.  Simply copy and paste and help me share the word about the Swap!  Please link to this original post so that all of the details can be found easily.

Here are just a few photos for inspiration ….

 Lampwork buttons by Kerry Bogert

Oh, just one more thing!  A little prize for one lucky participant!  I’ve gathered up a pretty selection of old mother of pearl buttons, just to say “thank you” for joining the Button Swap Blog Hop.  The winner will be randomly selected from the Swap participants and announced on the Blog Hop day.

*Just a note*  If you would like to continue getting updates on my blog posts, please sign up for the RSS feed or sign up for email updates – both can be found on the upper left side of my blog.  Google Friend Connect is no longer enabled on my blog since I use WordPress and that function was discontinued on non-Blogger blogs as of March 1st. I wouldn’t want to lose a single one of you if you were following my blog through Google Friend Connect.   Thank you SO very much. 🙂

*Sign ups for the swap are now closed.  Thank you to all that joined in!*

 Thanks for stopping by today!

– Cindy

I’d LOVE to participate. I’m a button hoarder or sorts!!
I don’t mind shipping internationally. I’ll admit that I’ve never shipped internationally but would love the opportunity to learn more about how to it. 😉
Please let me know if you need any other information right now.

Kay March 20, 2012 at 12:02 pm

I’d love to participate, although I don’t really have any special buttons. I just like lokoing for buttons in stores and such. I’d rather not ship internationally at this time. I think this would be fun to try.

I’m just getting into the button craze! I’ve actually blogged about a few projects I’ve done with buttons. I would love to be involved with this button swap. I really can’t ship internationally, though. Looked forward to it!

Rebecca Anderson March 20, 2012 at 12:09 pm

YES! Sign me up! I love buttons. So does my Mum (a knitter) and I frequently send her cool ones that I find online and at markets. Thanks Cindy!

Rebecca Anderson March 20, 2012 at 12:12 pm

And by the way, for anyone wondering, shipping internationally (certainly from my end) doesn’t cost much more than shipping locally, and doesn’t take much more time, you just have to visit a post office. If anyone has any questions about shipping internationally (or what it’s like to receive many international packages!) then please feel free to contact me through my blog.

Cilla Watkins March 20, 2012 at 3:26 pm

Hi Cindy
What a fun idea! Sign me up please. I am in Canada.
It doesn’t cost more to ship to Canada incase you are worried. It just takes two weeks for your package to arrive so If you are tardy getting it in the mail that is where the problem comes from.
Thanks~
Cilla

Janet March 20, 2012 at 3:41 pm

Hey Cindy- I’d love to sign up! Is there a database for entering info?
also, since I’m so new at this blinkie badge thing, I’m not exactly sure on the procedure for putting your button on my blog and linking it? Are there instructions for the digital non-natives? LMK thanks! maureen

Angie B March 20, 2012 at 5:22 pm

Yes, how fantastic!! Please include me, I will happily ship anywhere.

Tania Spivey March 20, 2012 at 5:27 pm

Add me! I don’t currently collect buttons, but I’m more than happy to start searching this weekend at local antique stores, and will probably make a few as well! I’ll ship anywhere you need me to!

Cindy March 20, 2012 at 5:29 pm

About the blog badge…I’m sorry I opted not to use a code box. You can copy and paste the badge and it should link to this specific blog post. I don’t use Blogger, but I did find this video that shows how to add a badge to your blog sidebar.

I hope this helps!

Michelle Mach March 20, 2012 at 6:17 pm

Cindy,

This sounds like so much fun! I’ve been signing up for lots of blog events lately, but at least they are all a few weeks apart. I just can’t resist this one! I love using buttons in my work. In fact, buttons are probably my most favorite type of closure for necklaces and bracelets. Please count me in!

Riki Schumacher March 21, 2012 at 1:30 am

I would love to join, but I just have too much going on right now. I look forward to seeing what everyone makes with their buttons!

Thanks for alerting us to the ‘follow’ issue–which I completely forgot about. Now I know why your posts have not been showing up on my blog reader. I really don’t like having to go to two or more places to read my favorite blogs, but this is what we are forced to do. Hopefully it will be replaced with something better…

Boot~C March 21, 2012 at 10:44 am

What a great idea! I keep trying to push myself to make things outside the “normal” beads and gemstones. This will be great! I’d rather ship in the US/Canada only, though. Thanks so much for a great idea!
