If you’re addicted to designing jewelry, you may have already heard of BeadingDaily. Beading Daily is a new beading community e-newsletter with loads of great information. I usually do a quick glance through their email articles, but today one really caught my attention. I was taken to the “A little something” blog written by ESL teachers who, together with volunteers, are making a difference in the lives of refugee women in Denver, CO. Beads are actually making a difference in these women’s lives. The women meet regularly in an effort to learn new skills, self-sufficiency, and to learn a craft which they then sell. What a great idea! I was especially touched by the story of a 53 year old woman whose family has fled Iraq, and is now starting a new life here in the United States. You can read how this program has made an impact recently on her life here. This really puts things in perspective.
I know I have mentioned that I like to give my extra beads to the boys to make their own treasures. Now I know a great place to send spare beads! Maybe you have extra beads too that you are not using. Why not send them to this women’s group ~ a Wish List as well as a mailing address is on the site’s home page.
Have a great weekend!
