Staunton, VA\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Ducklings-at-Gypsy-Hill-Park-Staunton-VA-cindywimmer.com_.jpg\" width=\"515\" height=\"743\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.staunton.va.us\/directory\/departments-h-z\/recreation-parks\/parks\/gypsy-hill-park\">Gypsy Hill Park<\/a>\u00a0is a huge park situated on 200+ acres. \u00a0There were once springs here, which were used in the mid 1800&#8217;s to supply the city with water. The park was named after the gypsies who would camp near the springs.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?attachment_id=13860\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-13860\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"Swans - Aristotle quote\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/In-all-things-of-Nature-quote-by-Aristotle-cindywimmer.com_.jpg\" width=\"515\" height=\"650\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When leaving Staunton, I stopped to take a look at a fairly well known abandoned building. \u00a0You can&#8217;t walk around this private property &#8211; which was closed in 1996 &#8211; but I managed to take a few photos from a distance. \u00a0 The DeJarnette Center (formerly the DeJarnette State Sanatorium) was founded in 1932 as a private pay unit of Western State Hospital. \u00a0The center was named after <a href=\"http:\/\/www.encyclopediavirginia.org\/DeJarnette_Joseph_Spencer_1866-1957#start_entry\">Dr. Joseph DeJarnette<\/a> &#8211; the physician who served as superintendent of WSH from 1906 to 1943. DeJarnette was known for his support and involvement in \u00a0the unfortunate eugenics movement.
