<\/a>Just stopping in to say Hello on this long weekend.\u00a0 I hope you are enjoying it.\u00a0\u00a0 It has been jam packed full of fun outings here from my son’s big birthday party with his classmates today and the impromptu tag sale that we stumbled upon yesterday.\u00a0 The tag sale!\u00a0\u00a0 So let me tell you a little about our day yesterday…. . \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

We had heard about a\u00a0farm on the foothills of the Blueridge Mountains\u00a0with a great big corn maze, and decided to take the kids yesterday.\u00a0 The weather was around 80 and just perfect.\u00a0 Well, you\u00a0 know me, I decided to check and see if there were any antiques stops along the way.\u00a0 Purcellville<\/a>….now that sounded like a town with a quaint mainstreet and maybe an antiques shop or two.\u00a0 Boy was I right!\u00a0 As we drove in to town we noticed crowds walking everywhere and big signs saying, “Community Tag Sale”!\u00a0 We hit the jack pot.\u00a0 \u00a0As it turns out, this was the town’s 8th annual tag sale and the entire town is turned in to one great big flea market, drawing thousands of people.\u00a0 Parking lots, side streets, front yards, everywhere you looked there were tables and bins full of potential treasures.\u00a0 This was tag sale heaven!<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"The<\/a>

The streets were lined with turn-of-the-century homes and businesses from yesteryear.<\/p><\/div>\n

We ended up staying ALL day, enjoying a picnic on a church lawn and getting to know many of the church members as we spent a good part of the afternoon at their sale.\u00a0 We met a man who was from the first graduating class of McLean High School (1955) – the high school down the street from where we are building our house.\u00a0 And while at the church, would you believe, my husband ran in to the Commanding Officer of his very first ship as a Navy Ensign.\u00a0 Sadly, the USS Portland (LSD-37)<\/a> was decommissioned in 2003 and was later sunk off the coast of Virginia in a target exercise.<\/p>\n

This unusual and incredible Scottie weathervane was priced at over $1,400.00<\/p><\/div>\n

Well, we never made it to the corn maze (but there’s always tomorrow, we do plan to go Monday), but everyone had fun.\u00a0 On the drive home I could not pass up the chance to stop in my all-time favorite antiques store, and one that I’ve mentioned among other times here<\/a>, and here<\/a>– The {infamous}LUCKETT’S Store!\u00a0 LUCKily for me, there is a huge playground practically in the parking lot -how convenient! – and while my husband watched the kids, I snuck in all alone to shop!<\/p>\n

Well I must say it wasn’t long before I found a few things I could not live without…..\u00a0 a beautiful old ironstone soup tureen would look so pretty holding a few baubles, sweet\u00a0 award ribbons, a vintage jewelry box ready to\u00a0be filled\u00a0with beads, and some great old padlocks<\/a>.\u00a0 Now I know I don’t need to start another<\/em> collection, but there’s something about the mystery of locks – and what they may have stored.\u00a0 I learned that my Father in Law collected old locks as well, but he found ones with their matching keys and actually used them for their intended use.\u00a0<\/div>\n

I did find something so W<\/span>ONDERFUL<\/span><\/strong><\/span>,<\/span> <\/span>that it will have to wait for its very own<\/em> blog post.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I’ve been looking for this something wonderful for a very long time, so it\u00a0came home us as an early birthday present from my husband.\u00a0 More about that one a bit later!<\/div>\n
