{"id":580,"date":"2009-01-26T06:12:36","date_gmt":"2009-01-26T13:12:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?p=580"},"modified":"2009-01-26T06:12:36","modified_gmt":"2009-01-26T13:12:36","slug":"art-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?p=580","title":{"rendered":"Art History"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today my oldest son and his French class will be taking a field trip to the National Gallery of Art.\u00a0 They will be out to observe and admire French Impressionism.\u00a0 My husband will be taking a major diversion from his work routine by going along as a chaperon (the lucky guy).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now combining art with <em>jewelry<\/em>, coincidentally <a href=\"http:\/\/artbeadscene.blogspot.com\/2008\/01\/january-monthly-challenge.html\">Art Bead Scene&#8217;s <\/a>monthly jewelry challenge is now drawing inspiration from famous paintings.\u00a0 This month, the theme is <em>Irises <\/em>by Vincent Van Gogh.\u00a0 There are some seriously great prizes and I had hoped to enter.\u00a0 Alas, it&#8217;s already the 26th and I just haven&#8217;t felt motivated to work on something in <em>Iris <\/em>inspired colors.\u00a0 I took out a bead or two, trying to see what I could create, but it just didn&#8217;t come together.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I have photos to share of a\u00a0couple of necklaces I <em>did<\/em> manage to make.\u00a0 \u00a0This first necklace features lampwork glass beads by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bonfirebeads.com\/\">Angie Underhill<\/a>.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had these beads for some time and planned to keep them for myself, as I love the blues, silvers and little swirls in the glass.\u00a0 They remind me of the beach and of summer&#8230;.such a nice thought when it is SO cold here.\u00a0 And as a side note&#8230;my husband went running super early yesterday morning and came home with <strong>ice<\/strong> in his hair, that&#8217;s how cold it was!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/sea-dreamer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-581 aligncenter\" title=\"sea-dreamer\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/01\/sea-dreamer-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This next necklace began with the single bumpy lampwork bead.\u00a0 It was part of a set that&#8217;s long been used in other designs.\u00a0 The dots on the bead contain beautiful, subtle colors of blue\/green\/tan\/browns.\u00a0 I searched through my pearls for the tiniest and\u00a0wire wrapped them in a big bunch.\u00a0 I coiled sterling silver wire in to\u00a0a big loop for the lampwork and pearl pendant.\u00a0\u00a0The necklace was then oxidized with liver of sulphur and\u00a0polished in the\u00a0tumbler.\u00a0 The end result are colors that are soft, muted, and remind me of the &#8220;shabby chic&#8221;
