{"id":6170,"date":"2011-05-20T18:30:25","date_gmt":"2011-05-20T22:30:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?p=6170"},"modified":"2011-05-20T18:39:08","modified_gmt":"2011-05-20T22:39:08","slug":"nostalgia-by-mail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?p=6170","title":{"rendered":"Nostalgia by mail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My mailman has recently reminded me with his deliveries that I am one <em>lucky<\/em> lady.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m lucky to have sweet friends, friends who think of me when they&#8217;re out antiquing or rummaging around estate sales. \u00a0They know me well enough to know about the many things I hold dear &#8211; from buttons to Victorian pictures. \u00a0I gathered up the treasures I received in the mail in the last few weeks and thought I&#8217;d share them with you &#8211; brushing off the dust of many years and letting their beauty show once again.<\/p>\n<p>I was so surprised when I received a gift from dear <a href=\"http:\/\/vintagesweets.typepad.com\/\">Beth<\/a>, out of the blue. \u00a0She knows I&#8217;m crazy about Scotties and said she thought of me when she saw these book ends. What an adorable pair &#8211; carved in wood, you can just see their expression.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-6171\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?attachment_id=6171\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6171\" title=\"westiebookends_bethbricker\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/westiebookends_bethbricker.jpg\" alt=\"westiebookends_bethbricker\" width=\"505\" height=\"592\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/westiebookends_bethbricker.jpg 505w, http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/westiebookends_bethbricker-150x175.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/westiebookends_bethbricker-255x300.jpg 255w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 505px) 100vw, 505px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/storiestheytell.blogspot.com\/\">Christine<\/a> knew how much I love vintage mother of pearl and sent me these old belt buckles, along with some great embroidered handkerchiefs. \u00a0 Can you imagine the time it took to stitch these simple flowers?<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-6172\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?attachment_id=6172\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6172\" title=\"mopbuckles_christinedamm\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/mopbuckles_christinedamm.jpg\" alt=\"mopbuckles_christinedamm\" width=\"515\" height=\"555\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/mopbuckles_christinedamm.jpg 515w, http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/mopbuckles_christinedamm-150x161.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/mopbuckles_christinedamm-278x300.jpg 278w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 515px) 100vw, 515px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I received this very old cube of black glass pins and rhinestone buttons from <a href=\"http:\/\/lorianderson.blogspot.com\/\">Lori<\/a>. \u00a0I&#8217;ve never seen anything like it and imagine the pins were used for pinning clothes (toilet meaning dressing table or area in older times). \u00a0I&#8217;ve done some research on these pins and it seems quite rare to have so many pins still on the cube.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-6173\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?attachment_id=6173\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6173\" title=\"glass-headpins_loria\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/glass-headpins_loria.jpg\" alt=\"glass-headpins_loria\" width=\"515\" height=\"692\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/glass-headpins_loria.jpg 515w, http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/glass-headpins_loria-150x201.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/glass-headpins_loria-223x300.jpg 223w, http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/05\/glass-headpins_loria-502x675.jpg 502w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 515px) 100vw, 515px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kabsconcepts.blogspot.com\/\">Kerry<\/a> sent a text from an estate sale asking if I had &#8220;any use for old tintypes?&#8221; &#8211; she was drawn to the ones with the rosy cheeks. \u00a0I think she knew the answer.<\/p>\n<p>I would rescue every old picture if I could, after all, these were someone&#8217;s cherished family members. \u00a0I can&#8217;t tell you how many times I&#8217;ve wondered about the faces in the pictures &#8211; who were they? \u00a0What were they thinking that day? \u00a0What became of their life? \u00a0Do they have any living relatives \u00a0&#8211; if only I could send them the pictures so they could be kept in the family. \u00a0And what if they had no family left to remember them, which was most likely the case. \u00a0Well then they have come to the right place. \u00a0I pull out my piles of old pictures and collection of velvet Victorian albums (a future blog post in itself) and reminisce about people I have never met. \u00a0It feels good to reflect on these strangers, as they were not always <em>strangers<\/em>. \u00a0And who would want to be forgotten?
