{"id":720,"date":"2009-03-08T21:09:47","date_gmt":"2009-03-09T04:09:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?p=720"},"modified":"2009-03-08T21:09:47","modified_gmt":"2009-03-09T04:09:47","slug":"treasure-hunting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?p=720","title":{"rendered":"Treasure hunting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/vintage-finds.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The weather was beautiful this weekend and we were out and about treasure hunting.\u00a0 We headed down south to Fredericksburg&#8230;.I had visions of stopping in a few antique stores in the downtown area, and my sons were eager to visit the area Civil War battlefields (with a metal detector in tow).<\/p>\n<p>We made\u00a0a stop at a Civil War museum and then headed downtown to the quaint shopping area.\u00a0 It&#8217;s been a year or two since we had visited Fredericksburg.\u00a0 People were milling about enjoying the warm day\u00a0 (hard to believe we had a &#8220;blizzard&#8221; the weekend before!), and a line was out the door at the ice cream shop.\u00a0 No problem for me, as I went to the Fudge shop instead.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/fredericksburg-railroad2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-722 aligncenter\" title=\"fredericksburg-railroad2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/fredericksburg-railroad2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"304\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/fredericksburg1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-724 aligncenter\" title=\"fredericksburg1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/fredericksburg1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"655\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the latest Father and Sons photo (my 6 year old is missing from this photo&#8230;he was off with his Grandparents on what was probably the last ski trip of the season).\u00a0 Can you guess who takes the pictures in this family?\u00a0 My poor husband has his face showing up on this blog more times than he realizes or probably cares to!\u00a0 And by the way, this was the first time <em>he <\/em>wore the Baby Bjorn baby carrier and he pointed out that\u00a0he overheard two different men commenting on him wearing it.\u00a0 One looked at him (with\u00a0disdain)\u00a0and then told his wife, &#8220;No way! That&#8217;s why we have a <em>stroller<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0 We didn&#8217;t mind.\u00a0 My little Sweet P (from N.P.W. &#8211; his initials) was riding in style and eventually fell asleep!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/dowmtown-fredericksburg.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-725 aligncenter\" title=\"dowmtown-fredericksburg\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/dowmtown-fredericksburg.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Do you remember me mentioning that I just have this thing for pie safes?\u00a0 My husband and I like to see who is the first to spot one in a shop (that and Scottie planters)&#8230;.boy did I get double credit for finding this one in a window!\u00a0 In all of my pie safe admiration, I have never seen one so big!!!\u00a0 My husband got to talking to the dealer about this one, which he attributes to the Wythe County or Shenandoah Valley regions.\u00a0 And the price tag&#8230;.try and guess.\u00a0 $12,000.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/12000-pie-safe.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-726 aligncenter\" title=\"12000-pie-safe\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/12000-pie-safe.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"425\" height=\"567\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We were informed by one of the store owners that metal detectors were not allowed on the battlefields of course nor on any private property nearby.\u00a0\u00a0 The boys wanted to search for Civil War bullets or other lost and buried scraps of metal (and boy did we find some interesting things, including a buried fender\u00a0with a &#8220;Fly Navy&#8221; bumper sticker on it).\u00a0 We drove all around to find a place that was not a battlefield or private property.\u00a0 We finally found\u00a0a wooded area near University of Mary Washington.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll have fun with this metal detector on the beach this summer.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/civil-war-searching.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-727 aligncenter\" title=\"civil-war-searching\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/civil-war-searching.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"369\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While in the antique shops, I noticed advertisements for the DC Big Flea&#8230;and it was this very weekend!\u00a0 I knew I just had to go&#8230;.even. if. it. meant. taking. THREE BOYS!!!\u00a0 We went to the show today and they were remarkably good!\u00a0 Nathaniel made his big Antique Show debut&#8230;and in 2 separate, huge buildings (one is where the Gem and Jewelry show is held, so he&#8217;s already familiar with that facility!).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/dc-big-flea1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-732 aligncenter\" title=\"dc-big-flea1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/dc-big-flea1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"425\" height=\"567\" \/><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/dc-big-flea.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I found some interesting pieces of vintage ephemera.\u00a0 I was looking for some pretty props for jewelry pictures.\u00a0 One find was an old ledger that belonged to Arthur Black Derby and is dated July 25, 1898.\u00a0\u00a0 They lived on Park Avenue in Hoboken, NJ.\u00a0 The entries are from 1903 to 1905 and catalogue receipt of payment for items such as hauling gravel, 7 acres of mowing to berries and tobacco.\u00a0 Oh and the girls names are from a different time:\u00a0 Cora, Mabel, Edith, Hattie, Lulu, Matilda, Lucy, Vera, Bessie, Ella, Lillian, Irene, Cecelia&#8230;. And what a surprise to find an old picture of a Mr. Walder with his son and daughter at the Mississippi Levee tucked inside.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/vintage-postcards.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-728 aligncenter\" title=\"vintage-postcards\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/vintage-postcards.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"352\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And lastly, here amongst worn postcards, mysterious keys and chandelier crystals is my favorite find:\u00a0 this sweet Linden alarm clock.\u00a0 Look at those aqua blue rhinestones.\u00a0 I think it is perfectly shabby chic and just what I&#8217;d like to place in my dream studio\/craft room.\u00a0\u00a0 It may be from the 50&#8217;s.\u00a0 Can&#8217;t you just see a girl running in to her room with her pony tail swaying, and plopping on the (pink, frilly) bed.\u00a0 She glances over at this clock on her night stand to check the time.\u00a0 Ah, she made it home by her curfew!\u00a0 Then she reaches for her diary to make a note of her evening&#8230;she just returned from a sock hop with her Richie Cunningham of a guy. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/vintage-finds.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-729 aligncenter\" title=\"vintage-finds\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/vintage-finds.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"430\" height=\"573\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0And with that, until next time&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/fredericksburg.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/03\/fredericksburg-railroad1.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The weather was beautiful this weekend and we were out and about treasure hunting.\u00a0 We headed down south to Fredericksburg&#8230;.I had visions of stopping in a few antique stores in the downtown area, and my sons were eager to visit the area Civil War battlefields (with a metal detector in tow).
