Earlier this year we decided that Texas was too big of a state to be ignored and we took the family on vacation. \u00a0 We were ready for an adventure &#8211; to visit some of my husband&#8217;s family and to see some of the many sites that make Texas famous.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>I&#8217;ve gathered up some of our favorite memories from our trip and want to share my list of 10+ things to see and do in Texas. Maybe, like us, you&#8217;ve never been and you&#8217;ll see what you&#8217;ve been missing. \u00a0Or maybe these photos will bring back memories of your own travels through the lone star state. \u00a0It was sure worth the trip from Virginia!<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?attachment_id=13990\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-13990\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"Texas - with view of Mission\" src=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/Texas-the-lone-star-state_opt.jpg\" width=\"515\" height=\"774\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>1. \u00a0Good ole American nostalgia &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.drpeppermuseum.com\/default.aspx\">The Dr. Pepper Museum<\/a>.<\/h2>\n<h4>I thought I&#8217;d throw an unexpected one out first. \u00a0We had no idea we&#8217;d be stopping in to visit the home of \u00a0America&#8217;s oldest soft drink brand. \u00a0I was drawn in by the 100+ year old building in the old manufacturing district of Waco. The impressive stained glass windows were added in 1920. \u00a0 Pope John Paul II visited the cathedral in 1987.<\/h4>\n<h2>\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?attachment_id=14000\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-14000\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14000\" alt=\"San Fernando Cathedral\" cool air plants in the trees &#8211; so amazing how they grow without soil. \u00a0Not something we see back home in the cooler state of VA.<\/h4>\n<h2>4. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/seaworldparks.com\/en\/seaworld-sanantonio\/\">SeaWorld San Antonio<\/a><\/h2>\n<h4>Definitely a fun day outdoors &#8211; although when we were visiting there happened to be a rare &#8220;arctic blast&#8221; passing through Texas! \u00a0The kids enjoyed the roller coasters and we all enjoyed the dolphin and killer whale shows.<\/h4>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?attachment_id=14008\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-14008\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14008\" alt=\"Recycled \/><\/a><\/h2>\n<h4>We were taken in by two fantastic sea-life sculptures on exhibit at the the park &#8211; both made from plastic marine debris! \u00a0The Washed Ashore Project is a non-profit organization that teaches environmental issues through art. \u00a090% of the debris collected from the beaches by staff and volunteers are petroleum-based plastic. \u00a098% of this trash is then used to create marine-life sculptures. \u00a0Over the past 4 years, over 12 tons of debris has \u00a0been collected and more than 45 sculptures have been created.<\/h4>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sweetbeadstudio.com\/?attachment_id=14015\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-14015\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-14015\" alt=\"Washed \u00a0The Alamo<\/h2>\n<h4><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thealamo.org\/\">The Alamo<\/a> was originally known as \u00a0Mission San Antonio de Valero and founded in 1718. \u00a0The Battle of the Alamo (1836) played a pivotal role in the Texas Revolution &#8211; the fight for Texas&#8217; independence from Mexico. \u00a0The popular battle cry, &#8220;Remember the Alamo!&#8221; was used by Sam Houston when he defeated Gen.
