A little day trip

by Cindy on June 2, 2007

I hope everyone is in the midst of a nice, relaxing weekend.  Today we decided to go on a little trip to one of our favorite locations….Colonial Williamsburg.  When we lived closer, this was our #1 destination  for a stroll with the dogs and a nice picnic in the field.  Today was beautiful and sunny, the perfect day to show the boys around the historic buildings and homes.  Our tradition is to stop in to The Trellis restaurant in Merchants Square to pick up sandwiches for our picnic.  We also tried a fairly new place for picnic goodies, The Cheese Shop, which is filled with gourmet treats.

Back to The Trellis…this is a well-known local favorite, home of the original “Death by Chocolate” dessert.   The co-owner, Marcel Desaulnier is a master of decadent desserts and several cookbooks.  To complete our lunch, I had to pick up a few cookies aptly named “Absolutely Deep Dark Chocolate Fudge Cookies”.  We enjoyed our picnic, fed the squirrels and birds, played  frisbee, climbed on the humongous old trees, took lots of photos, visited a pair of gentle horses, and strolled through the gardens.  Then as a special treat before our ride home, we made another traditional stop at Wythe Candy and Gourmet Shop.  Here the boys picked out their favorite unique gummies, and I picked up some fudge.  What a fun day.

On the jewelry front, be on the lookout for some new pieces I’ll be adding to  the shop….here’s a little hint…silver wire work and lampwork!
