I made the sad realization recently that the sun is going down earlier. I noticed the corn stalks, here on the Eastern Shore, have started to turn brown. And yes, Halloween decorations have been popping up on the shelves. I have a hard time believing that summer is almost – gulp! – over. Some kids have returned to school already. And for some, their kids have left home for the first time to start college.
When I see the countdowns for school to start, I avert my eyes. I have a personal philosophy that life is just way too short to wish away any of the days. I am going to relish every single last day left of the summer. This post is a little slice of my Summer 2012. I hope you don’t mind indulging me in my online scrapbook of my little guys – for this is how I’ve spent my days….very fortunate to live by the shore, the place that I am drawn to most (well, other than an antique mall!). 🙂 This summer was filled with days at the beach, a visit from my brother and his family (6 boys running amok in the house!), a few trips to Chincoteague and Assateague, and wrapping up the first phase of a very big project….cannot wait to tell you about it soon, too – my first hint ever!
I hope you are enjoying the sunshine when you can, taking it all in before the days turn chilly.

Priceless pictures, Cindy! The boys are so cute, having so much fun. You are a great mom, hope you know that 🙂
GREAT shots Cindy! I’d frame them all up to have summer around you all year long! The boys are precious, enjoy you days, hugs, Laura
Such gorgeous images of your Summer Cindy, I too have noticed the nights drawing in here in the UK, It’s dark when I leave the house for work now, (granted I leave at 5.30am, but still), we’ve not had much of a summer here, it’s rained pretty much the whole time. I have to say do love the first simmer of autumn, wrapping up in cosy jumpers and drinking hot chocolate, mind you I only like it for a little while and then i want it warm again 🙂 x
Again…fantastic photography and what a wonderful way to spend your summer….like you, I am drawn to the sea too…I lived on the Pacific ocean for a couple of year, working on private/public ships and really, really miss it. Looks like it has been a great summer….
Looks like a fun filled summer. The boys – yours and their cousins are adorable!
Beautiful pictures, Cindy. You’re right about Fall approaching. The nights and mornings are getting chilly.
Enjoy your boys right now. I wish I could go back in time and get a little kid hug from my guys…
What great pictures! Your boys and their cousins are adorable. I hate to see the end of summer also. I was never ready for my kids to go back to school. I love the summer and I loved having them home, doing fun things together. I’m holding on to every day that’s left, even though I love fall in my garden. Can’t wait to see the new project!
That looks like a summer well spent Cindy!
Beautiful photos friend and a wonderful reminder to enjoy every minute.xoxo
Ginger cousins! The ocean! Wonderful…one thing that soothes the end of summer let down- knowing I will see my friends at ArtBliss. And I have to confess – as a full time art teacher back to school ads used to fill me with dread. Now that I am a freelance teacher- they give me a bit of a thrill that I am not going back to full time. September has become a very creative time for me marked by full days in the studio, long walks with the dogs….
Gorgeous. If I lived by the ocean, I think I would feel the same. There is just something about photos of cute kids playing in the sand and surf!
Boys, sand, and water. What a combo. I too am a sea person, but don’t get to it much anymore. Thanks for the pics, they were great!!
Oh, Cindy, how I love your photographs. There’s a book entitled “If You Meet the Buddha on the Road, Kill Him.” And that book has a section at the end about the author and the sea. I read that in the 1980s (the book is still in print) and it shook me to the core because it was as if it was me & my relationship to the ocean, not the author’s. I love the ocean so much that I’ve been known to burst into tears at the first sight, sound, and feel of it. I love it not like I love beads or my iPhone or people. It’s much more primitive, maybe primeval. It’s so nice you have that summer home, not just because it’s out of the city, but because it’s on the coast. Lucky, lucky you! Thanks for sharing all this and making me think about how we need to go a few miles west so I can stand in the sand, too. What great memories for these boys (all 6 of them — yikes!). Thank you, Cindy.
Oh, Cindy, I always get misty-eyed at your wonderful photo art… such poignant reminders of days gone, and never to to be enjoyed again, no matter how wistfully we might wish it! The boys are so natural and comfortable in front of the camera (or you have made it seem so LOL) But don’t worry, even though mine are older, we are still making great memories together! Thanks for sharing your little men again.
Oh gosh Cindy- I look at these photos and I see how you are now the master of this skill! Wow. They really do grow so fast, don’t they? So many of these shots are keepers- forever! The six boys along the fence- did you pose them? Who has those red love beads, I wonder? Your photos are are so wonderful.
I too, share your joy of the shore. I try to walk 3-4 miles at least four days a week on our local Jones Beach on Long Island, ny- so just try and tear me away next week- my last before school starts (on Wednesday, for me). I just adore walking the beach every day. It’s the same, but different and it just thrills me!
Oh it’s so nice to see how many ocean-lovers there are here! You totally understand the connection.
The picture of the boys lined up along the fence – my brother grabbed my camera and took that shot! Sometimes we get lucky and ALL the boys are facing the right direction…it’s not to say there weren’t a few with someone’s eyes closed!!
Cindy, I too am savoring these long beautiful, warm and sunny days of August. We were so lucky to have non stop sunshine while our grandchildren visited. We swam and fished and made cool jewelry in my studio. I think this has been the most wonderful summer ever. I keep thinking these memories of August sunshine will keep us through the winter and the busy season ahead. Thanks so much for sharing such fun photos of your boys and the beach.
Cindy, thanks for the beach views and a look at the growing boys. Gorgeous red hair in the family! Enjoy the quality time left with the boys. One thing for sure is the change of seasons let’s us savor and appreciate them as they come and go.
Lastly, you should think about submitting that first picture of your little guy to a travel magazine.
My heart aches a bit since school has started and I already miss my girl who is now a sophomore. And my son is knee deep in his new job, and with classes starting again he has no time to come home to me–I mean us. And my oldest has taken the summer to travel. On her own. By herself. All the way across the USA. I can’t tell you how much that frightens me.
But along come your darling pictures, which certainly makes me smile. And the weather has been cooler wich is a relief after months of triple digit temps.
Thanks for sharing!
What beautiful photos and such handsome boys! I too love the water and being from So Cal and now living in TN, I so miss being near the beach.
Looks like a great way to spend the summer! The boys are all so adorable. Love the photos of them. And I can’t wait to hear your news.
