This week the Focusing on Life challenge words are “take time”. How do we take time just for ourselves? I’m looking forward to seeing what others are doing to unwind, what they like to do when given a free moment. As for me, you see this picture of ceramic components below? You may be thinking that the answer to how I take time for myself is making jewelry. Not exactly.
These sweet ceramic pieces have something in common…..why yes, they are all owls. I’m a night owl. I take time to myself by staying up late. Very late. Most of you that know me are well aware that I’m more likely to return your email late at night than during the day. I remember years ago, people would tell me that once I had kids I would be cured of staying up late. Four boys and 12 years later, I’m still a night owl. I take after my Dad and my Grandmother. 🙂 I love the quiet of the house at night…. no more checking the clock and racing out the door going to and fro, no more rush. I love it.
To see how others are taking time, visit Sally Russick’s blog and see the Focus on Life participants here.
Have a great weekend!
– Cindy xoxo
P.S. The ceramic owls were made by – Nan Emmett (cabachon), LeAnn Weih (bead), and Kylie Parry (pendant).

AS long as its not affecting your health, its all good 🙂
i’m the exact opposite – can never stay awake past 10pm!! love that we’re all different – and i love the owl beads, esp. the coin one (bottom right), looks such a proud fellow 🙂
have a great week!
[no. 13 this week]
Yes, I know about those late emails and you know about my early ones 🙂 Whenever and wherever we can find those peaceful moments before life starts bustling around us, we must find them!
I didn’t realize that you were always a night owl. You must be able to manage on very little sleep. I too love the quiet of when everyone is asleep and nothing is happening. For me a great time to bead or use the computer. Those owls are a great pic for your post.
Yes – those owls represent you well! That has always amazed me about you Cindy. You do so much with your family during the day and still have the energy to be so productive with your jewelry at night! I’m pretty much done after 10:30 and I don’t even really like to make jewelry after dark! I get up before everyone else in the morning and enjoy the peace and quiet of the house then.
Love those owls and what a great representation of your
night owl habits! I am an early bird:) have a great weekend!
lol…I had to laugh…this is so true about you! But it is great that you are able to carve away some time to yourself because when you do, you are so dang productive it just blows me away! I now understand why my bedtime was always 8:30 when i was little girl…my mother had to have some downtime and she was ferocious about guarding it at night…love how you illustrated this post with those beautiful beads!
Oh how I love the irony of this post! Though not exactly a night owl, I do stay up rather late just to “unwind” so to speak. I have never been one who requires more than 5-6 hours of sleep, thankfully. Too much sleep and I drag the next day. So glad you have your quiet time!
I didn’t realize your are a night owl! I don’t know how you stay awake so late and be able to function the next day. I am neither one to get up too early or go to bed too late. Up at 6:30 and off to bed around 10:00 or so.
Those owls are darling!!
What a great way to share i! I’m a total night owl too, there is something special about a quiet house where everyone else is sleeping
Love the owls! I am so not a night owl – in bed by 10pm and up at 6am. Love the difference we are learning about everyone through this journey of photos!
it wasn’t the kids so much as a cure for late nights, but my commute of catching a train at 6am that did me in! Love the owls … really nice!
You and me both Cindy! I seem to be a night Owl, too, whether I want to be or not sometimes. LOL Although I seem to be my most productive during the late evening.
I must say, I LOVE Owls and those jewelry components are definitely appealing to me ^.^
Gorgeous!
I too am more of a night person, although I find myself getting tired earlier these days. I definitely am not a morning person, that is for sure. But I do wish I was! I can see that with a family, finding time for yourself is hard to come by. Your life balance is inspiring!
Your pic fits your theme well. A clever take on your idea.
I’m not a night owl at all, never have been. I’m a morning person and my teens aren’t so there is always plenty of quiet moments to be had in the early hours. 🙂
(I’m #40 this week)
I need my sleep, so I’d make a lousy night owl. I do LIKE owls though, and often use them in my jewelry designs.
Oh, another night owl! People will tell me to go to bed earlier – but I simply cannot! my house quiets down around 11:00 pm and then I have a couple of hours just for myself – for some strange reasons if I wake up at 5 or 6 (I can do that too) everybody else wakes up with me.
Love your ‘owls’ 🙂
I love your owls. It seems like sometimes the best time to take for yourself is when everyone is asleep. 🙂
Great night owls. I rarely stay up very late, but enjoy the feeling when I do!
Cindy, there is just something about the quiet of the house after everyone else has gone to bed, a calming, peaceful feeling. I also get most of my best ideas in the late night/early morning. Speaking of great ideas, what a great idea for the “night owl” photo, love the owls!
I, too, can be a night owl. Some of my best creativity happens in the wee hours. And it’s so relaxing in the night air. I’ve also been known to do all nighters, although, not too often as I don’t like sleeping away when it’s daylight.
The owls ~ perfect symbolism!
I’ve always been a night owl and I’ve given up trying to change! What a fabulous way to show your night owl tendencies!
Hi Cindy,
I really do not know how you can keep on being a night owl on such little sleep, but you seem to be able to handle everything well. I am one of those people that in my older years needs six to seven hours of sleep or I just can not function well. I use to be a night owl many, many years ago when my son was a little boy, so I do know about being up when everyone is asleep one can accomplish so much at that time.

Oh. Lovely. Working and doing whatever deep into the night is just perfect! Only thing is I wish I were a nightbird, but it just doesn’t happen. 😉
I can imagine that those quiet hours at night offer you a brief respite from the busyness of an active family. Your sweet photo of the owls is perfect for this post.
I’m a night owl too … my favorite time of the day (3 kids and 18 years later for me =)!
Well you know that I am a night owl as well! Hoot! In fact I just put a new batch of Valentine’s Owls in the oven yesterday. It remains to be seen how they turn out!
I have been trying to go to bed a might bit earlier but I still can’t resist the urge to go into my cave and create until my eyes blur! Thanks for sharing! Enjoy the day. Erin
Just LOVE those owls….. and how funny that I was woken last night by an owl hooting away from his perch on our chimney cover. I am NOT a night owl – more of an early morning maven so we can wave hello and good-bye as you finally get a few hours of shut-eye. Love your blog design!
I think you had a great idea to use the owls to represent that time of the day you take for yourself. I’ve often been considered a night owl too, but as I get older (and have started to go to the gym in the wee hours) this is starting to change. It’s a wonderful picture.
Oh yes you’ll find me up every night…The night is MINE I can have tea or coffee…I don’t have to share, I get to watch what I want on TV, and no one is fighting!!!
Love the “night owls” – good take on your ‘me time’. I can barely keep my eyes open when the sun sets! But they do open before it rises,..most days anyway! My hat’s off to all you night owls. Love those ceramic owls,…I’m drooling!
Lol. I didn’t realize you are a night owl too. It’s my favorite time of the day as you are totally off duty. I don’t have to do anything for the kids and don’t feel guilty for not cleaning or doing laundry. Gotta love that. Except when early morning comes I always swear that I’m going to go to bed early;-) glad you have your time niched out just for you.
