My Birthday Boy

chandlers-birthday

In the blink of an eye this little guy went from Chubby Cheeks to a big 5 year old.  We celebrated his birthday this week with the theme of his choice, TRAINS!  For a while there it looked like we were going to be pirates again, then it was construction, and even a mention of police cars… But trains it was, and we went all out and took a little mid-week trip to Pennsylvania to see the trains!

We stayed in downtown Lancaster at the new Marriott that was just opened this year.  This was no ordinary hotel; it was built with preserving history in mind.  The hotel stands  within the facade of a 110 year old department store… the ornate Watt & Shand.  Guests are in for a surprise when they walk in to the lobby, for right inside one will see the back of a historic brick home.  The front of the home is outside on the street. Inside the hotel one can also see a water-collection cistern that was unearthed and believed to be a part of the Underground Railroad.

We spent part of the day at the Railroad Museum of PA.  I never tire of seeing old steam engines and reading about railroad history in America.

The rest of the afternoon was spent at Cherry Crest Adventure Farm where we got lost in a 5 acre corn maze.  I’ve never been in a corn maze before, but let me tell you, it’s not easy to find your way out amidst the 10-foot stalks!  My husband told the kids not to worry, if we were stuck in there for a few days, we could always eat the corn!

…the adventure’s not over for my little guy.   Tomorrow *sniff* he starts his first day of Kindergarten.  Five years can go by way too fast.

It looks like the guys all had a great time!! You will have to make the corn maze a yearly tradition 🙂

Cindy,
He looks so happy! What a wonderful birthday. You guys did so much. And tomorrow will be such a big day for him. Take lots of photos so we can see his first day at school. Get some sleep, you’ll need it for the craziness in the morning!

Looks like Chandler had a great birthday!! The corn maize was on our to-do-list for our trip to lancaster earlier in the month but we’ll have to save it for the next time. Can’t wait to hear about Chandler’s first day of kindergarten – and Collin’s first day at the new school:) ENJOY!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHANDLER!!! Such a handsome little man. I hope he had a great day.

PS… the trick to finding your way out of any maze is to place you hand on the right wall and never take it off the wall. It will take you right out every time.

Cherish every moment! That is so sweet. He is adorable but I can already see the little boy he is becoming. My own kids went back to school last week, new schools for each. My son, Sport-o is now 11 and in the 6th grade attending the middle school where I taught once upon a time. And my daughter, Tiny Dancer, is now in 3rd grade at the school that I attended from 5th-8th. Time really files…Enjoy the day, Cindy! Erin

It’s hard to believe that Chandler is already in kindergarten! Nathaniel will be right along! Our grand children are ages 11 to 23 and I can remember well when they were 3 months old! I know you are savouring the moments of each of your boys–it goes so fast! Next year for Chandler’s birthday or any other reason you should come here and visit the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village! Henry Ford preserved so much of history in this location! You and your family would enjoy it and could stay with us! Love, Madeline

Happy Birthday to your little guy! It’s amazing how quickly they grow up, isn’t it? My “baby” boy just turned 8 this weekend and it’s really thrown me for a loop. 🙂 I would tell you to enjoy every minute – but it’s obvious from the pictures, the description and the joy I got from reading your post that you already are!!

We REALLY have to get these boys to Vermont! We invented the corn maze! Well, I’m not positive but we DO have corn! And ponies– and trains! Lots of fun for boys! Hope you got a good first-day-of-kindergarten shot of him– I still have the one my mom took of me with the Kodak. Great photos– thanks so much for the treat!
