Yesterday we had fun with Magic. Our oldest son is going to turn 9 in a week and we celebrated his birthday with many children from his new class.

As guests arrived, they decorated fabric that I had precut and fringed for their Magic Carpet. They sat on their transformed carpets for the Magic Show. The magician was really great with this age group…8 year olds are full of “I know how you did that..!” kind of statements. But he still had some tricks up his sleeve to stump them. Especially at the end of his show when he changed a balloon in to a real white rabbit, Max. Some were so surprised they thought for sure the rabbit was only a robot (!). My husband put together a cd for the kids to go along with the Magic theme -did you realize how many Magic songs were out there? “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic” by the Cars, “Abracadabra” by the Steve Miller Band, “It’s a Kind of Magic” by Queen, “Magic” by The Cars (my favorite)…….
I’ve been learning some MAGIC myself this past week. Visual Poetry, the online photo manipulation workshop has started. In this workshop, Susan Tuttle presents 3 projects per week for four weeks. She provides printable handouts, step by step screen shots, and most importantly video tutorials!! The Visual Poetry site is engaging with an “Art Bar” where she’ll upload your favorite inspirational music, and a group Flickr site – you can stop by and see photos created by participants. I’ve applied some of the techniques (toned-down and faded colors, rounded corners) to these photographs.

I love the retro character that I’m learning to apply to my pictures. If you’re interested, sign up for the Visual Poetry newsletter – Susan will be offering another class!
Have a great week, friends.

That party sounds like pure magic! Wonderful! I have a friend who is a illusionist…goes around the country, mainly to parties thrown by universities. He offered a party for my 11 yo for next year. But 12 year olds are completely jaded. And my 8 yo wants nothing to do with it. My friend is also a fierce basketball player and coach, so I might have him do a bball themed party for #1 son!
Love the look of the photos. That is MAGIC to me! And that little pooch is too cute!
Enjoy the day, dear friend!

What a fantastic idea for your son’s party! I’m so glad you all had fun, and your photos have so much character!
party sounds like it was a lot of fun!
Thanks for the link! It looks like the party was an overwhelming success!
Glad to hear the party was a huge success! We hope Gabriel has a very happy birthday! Hard to believe that Nathaniel will be 1 in a few weeks, too! This year has flown by! Hope to see you soon…
The B-day party sounds like it was a blast! I bet your son was thrilled. And how cool was the magic carpet idea? Wow! I really like the direction you are going with your photos although I thought your photos were amazing to begin with. They have an artistic flair that’s refreshing to see. Keep it up! I love seeing your photos!
Great job on the photos, Cindy! WOW! I can’t believe Gabriel is 9 already! Time sure flies. Tomorrow I’ll be flying to Baltimore for a long week end. It’s “family week end” at Salisbury University so we are all driving down to Salisbury to celebrate with CArrie. We’re staying somewhere near the campus on Friday then going to Helen and Dick’s place in Bethany on Saturday until Monday. Then I fly home to begin another busy week of “retirement”. Sometimes I think I should go back to work for money!! Then I realize what I would be getting myself into! Continue having fun with all your boys. Love you,
