Silly and Spooky

by Cindy on October 1, 2009

Halloween is just 30 days away, but who’s counting?    With today being October 1st, it was a jolt that Halloween is right around the corner. I saw candy corn for sale for the first time in the grocery store.  Only one out of the four kids has decided on their Halloween costume.  I think I need to start giving this holiday some consideration because we all know how fast this month flies by!   Are preparations underway in your house?

I don’t tend to make seasonal jewelry very often, but I usually can’t resist Easter and Halloween.  Just so many cute and creative beads out there made by talented lampwork artists.  Last year I custom ordered some beads from Novelty Beads and Snozberry Beads.  I made two long necklaces that  could be worn from year to year (in lieu of a costume even) …I wanted them to be a keepsake, full of sterling silver links and SILLY AND SPOOKY lampwork beads. I did not have an Etsy shop at the time, so my extra necklace will be available this year.  I’m hoping to add it to my shop later.   My necklace sure received a lot of attention at the preschool last year.  Why do preschool teachers get to wear all of the fun, whimsical necklaces?

Love the two little ghost beads!! my favorites!! Cindy remember to sent me the picture of your sons. I already finished your necklace, the only thing it needs is for me to add the pendant. Mari from Puerto Rico

So cute and fun! And it’s true that preschool teachers always wear such cute stuff during the holidays. We should be allowed to indulge in that fun too.

Lovely necklace full of whimsy!! Halloween isn’t such a big event here, although we are seeing more and more things for decorating, but costumes and trick-or-treat are not so wide spread. But all the Christmas sweets (gingerbread and all the other yummy stuff) land in the stores on September 1st, every year – can you believe it????

Such fun! I like Halloween and Easter and such, always thought I would be the kind to decorate for each season. I find that I am beyond lazy though…the Easter wreath I put on my door with the three birds’ nests and blue speckled eggs is still there! I need to swap that out for the October one right now! I am not one for wearing such items, but I do appreciate them and the whimsy. Yes, teachers have all the fun..I just cleaned out my jewel box and found all manner of my past teacher life…remember when button covers were all the rage in the 80s? Yes, I even had Halloween themed button covers! Ack! I am glad there are no pictures of that!

Enjoy the day!

Yep, they are cute alright! I don’t tend to make decorated holiday beads, I tend to be more subtle. But it’s fun to wear something like that, when you don’t get dressed up anymore!

Cindy, We LOVE Halloween at our house. I’m like the Halloween queen and the kids decide on their costumes way in advance…we have already carved pumpkins…and we will continue to carve pumpkins all month long…Did I mention that we LOVE Halloween…love the necklace, I need something just like this for trick or treating since I don’t think I’m going to dress up this year.

This necklace is so much fun! I love Halloween but have not put a lot of thought into it this year. We do dress up to hand out treats though.
