I am sure blogs across the East Coast are happily announcing the First Snow of the season. We were a bit surprised here in VA to receive much more snow than anticipated! The timing couldn’t have been better. We were on our way to a gingerbread house -decorating party given by the family of one of my son’s former classmates.
And what a setting for gingerbread decorating…Amphora Diner – a restaurant group known for their bakery. We were greeted by Santa when we arrived (see, I told ya they had an amazing bakery….just look at that glass case). Santa was so sweet and a modern guy at that…..he was snapping pictures too and handed out his email address so we could request copies of his pictures!
There were rows of perfect little gingerbread houses just waiting to take on a candy coating. Just about every seat in the room was eventually filled. It was like walking in to a candy shop with all of the confections set out… I think my sons were in heaven! There was good old fashioned ribbon candy alongside penguin gummis.
The spirit of holiday traditions continued when we returned home. My husband decided it would be the day to make the annual fruit cake. There was talk of secret ingredients and how this little tradition started in the first place (my Grandmother). We may not eat a lot of the fruitcake, but like life, it’s about the memories made a long the way!
And speaking of holiday cooking…thank you to all who have joined in the Artbeads gift certificate give away on my previous post. I can’t wait to pick the winner/s!!

So so jealous….when you live in Queensland, Australia……there just isn’t any snow…any time of year! The only time I got to see it snow was when I lived in Scotland.
Oh, what fun for the guys! You are just the BEST mother!! And, they are such troopers =)
My mother always makes a wonderful fruit cake….and wraps it with a bourbon soaked cheesecloth. I love all the ingredients….especially the pecans! YUMMMMMM.
Your husband holding your little guy in the picture made me laugh!!

Wow, that is quite a bit of snow, Cindy! I bet the kids loved it! I wonder, how much snow do you get in Virginia? (Or is VA not Virginia? Sorry, I don’t know all the short cuts for the different states.) Over here, we are averaging around 6 degrees with rain. But I am in no hurry for snow.

So glad to hear that the “fruitcake” tradition is still going strong! I actually thought about you and Randy making Rose’s fruitcake yesterday and wondered if you had started it yet? LOVE the pictures! Happy Advent!
Can you believe that we awoke to a “winter wonderland” here in Huntsville, too?!! I was so excited!! When we moved from VA I knew I would miss the snow (not driving in it though!) so I was happy to here snow flurries were in our forecast and then, so surprised to find it covering the ground Saturday morning! I must say, yes, what a perfect day for some Christmas festivities, and I would love to go to an event like that!! So cute…I can just imagine what fun the boys (and, you!!) had!! Cute, cute pics!! 🙂 Hope you all are enjoying the Christmas season!! 🙂
Love,
