In a recent Beading Daily post, Jean Campbell listed a few of her favorite Beading Daily projects. I glanced over the projects and one just jumped right out… Janice Berkebile’s Jeweled Pea Pods. I’ve always admired Janice’s wirework and never tried any of her tutorials …so I clicked on over to the Interweave Store and downloaded the project. Now I must admit my pea pod didn’t turn out the best…I’ve never been one for intricate fine wire coiling….and the pod turned out too small for the pretty Thai silver beads I had hoped to use, but I like it!
I had the idea of adding 6 “peas” to the pod to represent my family…and then a Family Necklace started to come together. Just the other day I created an initial-stamped heart using copper and brass sheet metal. I was practicing riveting, something I have been wanting to learn for some time. Luckily Jeanette was kind enough to teach me the tricks to riveting recently. I also stamped some hugs and kisses {xoxo} on sterling silver sheet. I oxidized the pendants with the really amazing Liver of Sulfur Gel, tumbled the necklace in my trusty tumbler, and the project was complete!

Have a great afternoon everyone!

This is a very sweet and sentimental necklace. I love the mama and papa peas and 4 little ones.
beautiful necklace! i love the mama and papa beads too!
i just love your necklace – and your peapod came out terrific! enjoy wearing it – and expect to get asked for special orders, this design just lends itself so easily to that! hmm… you may want to promote it for mother’s day! (trying to do the ‘looking ahead to holidays thing’ ok, i haven’t done anything of the sort for myself… but it is a goal of mine!)
your rivets look awesome, nice work.
So cute. The family beads are great!
Hi Cindy….this is a really beautiful necklace…I love all the pieces, all the different shapes, textures and dimensions….I would love to have a go at the metal work with the riveting and stamping….but I wouldn’t have a clue where to source the metal sheeting in Australia. sigh!
That is so great Cindy. *Sigh* I am a metalworker wannabe! I would love to saw and hammer and do more riveting and stamping and dapping… I just seem to find no time. I would love to have a tumbler too! Maybe I will ask Santa to bring me one this year. I promise to be good! I love the peas in the pod. Great design…I could see special orders for this (um… can I sign up for that?)
Love you!
Enjoy the day!

Your peapod tuned out fabulous! Two grown ups and 4 little ones…perfect! This couldn’t be your first time riveting…could it? Either way everything looks great. What a special necklace you have made.
This turned out great! I like the mix of metals.
I love Janice’s work. Haven’t taken any of her classes but her biz partner Tracey Stanley is also a GREAT teacher.
Love those pieces, Cindy! Isn’t it amazing how the media just takes over sometimes, and what you first envisioned becomes something even more fabulous?

I do believe riveting can be addictive~so beware =) LOL.

Cindy,
I saw Janette Berkebile’s tutorial also, but I honestly love the way you have made it truly yours. You have done an amazing job taking Janette’s piece as a starting point but creating yours from your heart! 🙂
Thank you for your most generous support on my last posting. I’ll make a deal with you. I’ll submit to Stampington if you will also!! 🙂 Your work is much to incredible not to have the whole art community see it!!

It’s too bad we missed each other at Art & Soul. How I miss the VA & MD areas but I can’t complain about the experience of a lifetime here.
Take care

Oh this is wonderful! I haven’t been able to make my riveting look like anything I’d want on jewelry, you did an outstanding job.
What a beautiful necklace!
That’s truly wonderful!
You and I need to have an overnight here when Rick and Zack go to PA and play with all our tools!
You did a fantastic job, Cindy.
