The “Master of Metal” will be coming our way, to Northern Virginia! Both Jeanette and I are so excited to offer a workshop by this nationally-known artist. Many of you are familiar with this modern icon of found object art… so well respected in this community for his “wearable art” (and featured artist in the current issue of Belle Armoire Jewelry). Not only is this a rare opportunity to meet Richard, but this is a brand new workshop that he is offering as well (we are one of the first to host this one!).
“Fabulous Found Object Pendants” is a cold-connection workshop for experienced jewelry artists as well as new jewelry designers. This workshop will focus on creating a pendant using found objects (fossils, buttons, mechanical parts, old jewelry, minerals….just about anything your heart desires!). Cold connection techniques such as riveting, stapling, tabs, prongs and micro fasteners will be explored. Students will also be introduced to Faux Bone. A wealth of tips and techniques will be shared!

Date: May 24th, 2010 (Monday)
Time: 10:00 – 5:00
Location: Hunters Woods, Reston Community Center
Cost: $130.00
If you happen to be attending Art and Soul in Hampton on this weekend, consider extending the fun and driving on up to northern VA….we’re less than 3 hours away. If you wanted to attend Art and Soul and found that Richard’s classes are all sold out (which they are), this is your 2nd chance to attend one of his workshops! We anticipate that this class will sell out as well.
Registration opens on Sunday, January 17th at 3:00 EST. You may register at the fundametals.net workshop page found here. Please feel free to contact me with any question. ‘Hope to see you there!

Oh,oh, oh… now I am really envious! You uberlucky girls to be hosting a workshop with him!!!! You really can’t imagine how much I would like to take this one! I am beginning to feel like I live on the other side of Jupiter…
Color me a dozen shades of jealous!
I saw that he was coming to the Valley Ridge Art Studio in SW Wisconsin, but there is now a waiting list as long as my arm. Bummer. Would have loved to take that class. Actually, would love to take any class. But maybe Bead & Button show this year… I need to start saving my pennies! Have fun! I know that it will take your work in a whole new direction. You lucky girls you!
Enjoy the day!

PS Cindy I apologize, I need to sit down and write you a note, I promise to get it done in the next day or so!
Cindy – When I read this entry, I couldn’t help but think how perfect this is for you – with all of the cool things you and the boys find, it will be great to find new and special ways to display them and incorporate them into unique works of wearable art. Enjoy! I am so happy for you that things are going so well for you! Hope to see you soon!!
