In the mail…

by Cindy on January 23, 2010

Hello friends

Sure hope you’re in the midst of a great weekend.   It’s sunny and beautiful here in Virginia.  I thought about what I’d like to share with you this time around and a few handmade goodies came to mind!  It was a great week from a mail perspective….the mailman brought me a few surprises.

scarflette-by-kabs

Isn’t this a sweet scarflette?  This gift came from the uber-talented Kerry of KABS Concepts.  Her knitting projects grace the pages of her blog almost as often as her wonderful lampwork beads.  I love the bright color she used – perfect shot of brightness on a drab winter day.

You may remember this beautiful piece by Sharon of Livewire Jewelry.   I fell in love with this piece as soon as I saw it and we made a trade….now this lucky piece is mine (lucky – the back of the Green Girl Studios pendant is inscribed with “a thousand wishes”).   One wish already came true as Sharon tucked some of her wonderful mixed media pieces in with the package.

…now on to what I sent out earlier in the week.  My bead partner in Lori’s Bead Soup Party  is an amazing lampwork artist in Texas named Lyn Foley.  Lyn makes INCREDIBLE lampwork beads and jewelry…she won honorable mention in the seed bead category in last year’s Bead Star competition (actually, she has won many awards – no surprise).  You just have to visit her blog and see her awe-inspiring work!   Just to give you an example, here’s one of her necklaces entitled “Amber Bubbles” –

I had asked Lyn if she had a preference on what type of beads I should send for the Bead Soup party, and she asked that I send something handmade.  Hmm…I don’t exactly make my own beads so the next best thing was to create something with wire.  My Bead Soup set is below….and to see what I make with Lyn’s beautiful beads, check back on February 10th!

It’s been fun meeting other Bead Soup participants and seeing what the “ingredients” in their soup mixes!

‘Til next time – thanks for stopping by!

Hi Cindy;

So great to be your Bead Party Partner. I have moved outside my box, and had so much fun with your wire links. AND I picked up “Easy Wire” the other day (your great bracelet on the cover) – and got inspired even more. Thank you bunches.

I live in the same neck of the woods as Lyn Foley and have been seeing her lampwork beads for years. Lucky you! She is lucky to get those goodies you’re sending. They are beautiful!

What a lovely gift from Kerry. Is there anything she doesn’t know how to do!:)

You two Bead Soupers are going to have so much fun creating a piece of jewelry with eachother’s swap. The lampwork beads are amazing and the wire work is superb.

That scarflette is so lovely. I can see wearing that one everyday. I love all of Sharon’s things that she had in Bead Trends. I think you are indeed a lucky girl to snag one. February 10th is so close and I am waiting (patiently) to see what you all come up with. I’ll be checking out your partners work. That necklace is yummy. Those components you made for the Bead Soup are fantastic. Who wouldn’t love to play with those! Enjoy your weekend.

Wow, great bead soup you sent Cindy! I would love to learn to make some of those small connectors. I need to get out my issue of EW and give them a try.

You are sooo lucky to have Lyn as your bead partner. Have followed her work for years – one of the best lampworkers out there. Can’t wait to see what you both design.
Kerry’s scarflette is soo cute – her day has to be more than 24hrs! – looks like your new necklace is a perfect match.

One lucky gal you are!

Cindy,
I’ve been meaning to tell you that Lyn is located in Round Top….where I taught my class a couple of weeks ago. And, she participates in the Fayetteville Art Walk. This is where I am teaching this weekend!
I am sure I will see her in May…during the Art Walk =)
What a small world…and of all artists for you to be paired with!!
