What color is your umbrella?

by Cindy on August 6, 2011

Do you ever take pictures in series?  I do!  I’ve been intrigued in the past by old doors, chandeliers, and of course my kids! :-)  This summer something caught my eye on the beaches.  Today I’d love to share a collection of photos I’ve taken over the last 2 months.  I couldn’t resist when when I stopped and noticed just how interesting a beach umbrella could be.

Cindy! I love this … your photos, as always, are amazing. I’ve loved to take photos of umbrellas too, but to see these beautifies all in one place made my heart skip a beat!

Renate August 6, 2011 at 7:10 am

Oh my – these speak loudly and clearly of summer – wish I was already at the beach. Hope you are enjoying your days there – it sure looks like you are.

Great theme.

Sally Anderson August 6, 2011 at 12:44 pm

These pictures just made me feel happy! I love the bright colors and, of course, the beach! I have done that taking pictures in a series. I have a zillion pictures of old, rotting barns from all over northern Virginia. All black & white. It was fun when I was on that kick!

Karen Williams August 6, 2011 at 1:53 pm

Too fun! Makes me want to run out to our local beach and see what it has to offer in the way of umbrellas. Probably not nearly so nice a collection, especially since it’s cool and cloudy here today.

Thanks for sharing – great use of closeups in your photos.

Alice August 6, 2011 at 5:01 pm

Oh what sweet photos! Such bright and cheery colors. I would love to be at the beach under one of these lovely umbrellas right now!!

Melissa M August 6, 2011 at 7:19 pm

Clever girl, you see everything! Thanks for sharing these fun, colorful photos with us!

Kayla August 6, 2011 at 10:58 pm

I’ve never thought to do that before! Like a personal collection in photograph form :)
Clever idea! I also never knew how interesting and unique umbrellas could be-I really love the 4th photograph in your ‘collection.’

Thanks for sharing your pictures with us!

Cindy, you make me long to dig my feet into the warm sand, oh how I miss the ocean. We are about 7 hour ride from the ocean, not easily accessible. I just love your pictures…the colors are beautiful, especially when you have a bright blue sky as a back drop.

Madeline August 7, 2011 at 1:31 pm

Cindy, what great photos! I never noticed how many different color combinations there are in umbrellas! You have a great eye for framing and color etc.! Keep it up! I particularly like # 11– almost looks like it’s raising a flap in greeting! Thanks for sharing the beach with those of us who aren’t there. Our trip to Baltimore has been pushed back until probably Labor day! Would love to see you.

sharon August 7, 2011 at 6:31 pm

Looks like a little bit of heaven to me Cindy! So glad you are all enjoying yourselves and having fun!

Cindy August 8, 2011 at 2:45 am

Thanks for stopping by, everyone! And btw, #11 – the blue and white stripes – is OUR umbrella! Of course I had to include ours too. :-)

Stefanie August 8, 2011 at 4:02 am

Ohh, what a beautiful series! LOVE the colors!

Michelle August 8, 2011 at 9:42 am

I wanna go back to the beach!!!

Christine Damm August 8, 2011 at 9:46 am

Hah! Now you’ve made me think of polymer clay umbrellas– layered, striped, etc. Thanks! little turned-up edges–oooh! I just did a spokes piece for the ABS challenge this month, looks like more circles ahead!

Holly August 8, 2011 at 10:32 pm

Oh. My. *love* these shots! And I really want to go the beach now :)

Brian August 8, 2011 at 10:54 pm

the colors are the eye candy, but it is what beach umbrellas do that make them draw your eye. They hide and they protect. in a light way. a fragile way. more graceful than a feather boa.

cat kerr August 9, 2011 at 9:16 pm

These are some beautiful photos Cindy..the colors are so vibrant and alive..I have never taken a series of photos before, but you have me thinking now ( : Hugs,Cat

Riki Schumacher August 10, 2011 at 7:23 pm

Hi Cindy! These are so dang fun. Love seeing all the colors and combinations. Have fun for all of us, and put more lotion on! Riki xoxo

Lori Anderson August 12, 2011 at 6:03 pm

Totally love this! And I’m glad I took a picture underneath (pointing up) when I was sitting under YOUR umbrella!

(And of course, my umbrella would be pink and purple. Probably with dots.)

diane cook August 13, 2011 at 9:45 am

Oh, what beautiful beach umbrellas! I love them ALL =) And, your beach pictures always make me want to be there too!
My umbrella would either be the very first one or the very last one! And, if I could…I would dangle a few chandelier crystals from the top inside (if I could). The light would catch those crystals and bounce everywhere!! But, alas…glass would not be good on the beach…

Caroly August 18, 2011 at 10:40 am

What delightful pictures! I don’t have an umbrella though :(

Maya @ Completely Coastal August 26, 2011 at 12:10 am

I’m loving this!!

Jane August 26, 2011 at 5:50 pm

Umbrellas are such beautiful bursts of color on the beach. When the boys were young, I always searched for unique patterns and colors…or painted my old umbrellas…so the boys would always know which ones were ours. We’ve had a HUGE pink flower, red-white-blue patterns (for the 4th, of course), and more. For our trips this summer, we’ve got a Hawaiian printed umbrella in brilliant tropical colors…and an orange and white one, which I am painting with citrus fruit.

Near tears, I read your piece about Hodgie and my heart just goes out to you and your family. Nearly 16 years is SO long! Time and prayer are your best friends now. I hope your heart heals fast, Cindy.

Warmly,
Linda
