Something new

golempendant

Hello!

Seems I’ve been all caught up with summer lately and haven’t shown any jewelry in some time!  Believe it or not, I have been burning the midnight oil lately creating jewelry, but I am tucking those away for long-term projects.  I do have a sweet necklace to share though, this one features a stoneware pendant by  Golem Design Studio. I was fortunate to meet Vlad, half of the Golem team, when I attended the Bead & Button show.  I loved the color combination immediately, and thought it would look great with a printed summer dress.  Or fall- this one could definitely go a long way this fall.  The spacers are by Spacer Queen and the spotted lampwork are by Blue Seraphim, both on Etsy.  Btw, if you’re interested, you can find Golem’s paisley collection here.

Does it look like sterling silver in that wire-wrapping?  You can’t tell, but I used silver-filled wire in this necklace.   Silver-filled wire is a great alternative to sterling in a market that is sky-high.  I still oxidized the wire and tumbled the chain portion in my Lortone tumbler.  If you are not familiar with silver-filled wire, it is wire that has a layer of sterling silver mechanically bonded to a brass (at least from this supplier) core.  The layer of sterling silver is known to be hundreds of times thicker than silver-plated.  I was happy with the results and find this wire will make a great option in some wire projects.

We are heading off on a road trip up north.  I hope to check in with you soon, and in the meantime just a few thoughts…..

Cindy it’s great to hear from you again! After you mentioned it when we last met, i did go and order some of the silver filled wire but then with everything that has happened, haven’t been able to use it yet. I was hoping to be able to oxidize it and happy to see that it will work! have a great road trip, look forward to hearing from you again soon. Love the pix, summer does seem to be flying by, hope to get to the beach yet! Nathaniel is precious!

I think that necklace is seasonless. It’s lovely and happy. Thanks for the tip on silver filled wire. I’ve wondered about it and it’s nice to know that it can take a trip through the tumbler (unlike plated). Have a lovely weekend and end of summer!

Beautiful necklace – very rich fall colors! I am enjoying my silver filled too. Thankfully there is an option now. Have fun on your trip!

I love the necklace!!!! My oldest daughter has one of those popular long summer dresses in the same color scheme. Gorgeous!

I’ve been wanting to try this silverfilled but keep forgetting about it until after I place an order (slaps head). Funny, when I saw the photo I immediately assumed it was sterling. I need to check this stuff out.

Have a wonderful getaway!

Such a gorgeous necklace Cindy! I absolutely love the pendant (I’ll be checking out her shop)
I’ve been super busy with summer as well, however unlike you I haven’t had a chance to make many new pieces.
Have a great trip!

What a beautiful necklace, those Golem designs are so unique. I just purchased some silver filled wire. It’s good to know that I can oxidize and tumble it, those wire wraps are beautiful.

Gorgeous necklace, Cindy! Love the colors, the little cutie, and the tootsies!

Sally Anderson August 13, 2011 at 2:52 pm

Hi Cindy, I love the new necklace. Those Golem products are so beautiful. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one that I didn’t like! A trip up north sounds good but being away from the beach sounds like a hardship! Unless, of course, you’re going to a beach up north! Thanks, too, for your kind comments about my dear friend Teena. Man, this is a tough one!
Look forward to hearing from you when you get back.
Hugs,
Sally

Oh I had no idea you bought some silver filled! And did you see the bracelet I made with the matching beads for that pendant? Didn’t we have fun in that booth? We like to NEVER got out of that place!

kim white August 14, 2011 at 7:53 pm

Hi Cindy!
Can you hammer the silver filled wire like you do with Sterling??
love the pictures and the necklace!

Cindy August 14, 2011 at 11:29 pm

Just to answer a few questions, yes those are my feet. :-)….in my favorite Born sandals. They have a nice high heel but are still so comfortable.
The wire is from Monsterslayer and it seems to me it can still be lightly hammered.

Norma August 15, 2011 at 10:39 am

Cute shoes! I love your shoes and the summer pictures are so precious. I want the necklace. Is it for sale and if it’s not for sale, can you recreate it for me?

Susan M (quiltingjewel) August 15, 2011 at 2:25 pm

Cindy –
What a wonderful necklace – I love the colors and they aren’t ones I usually wear. Thanks for talking about the silver filled wire – I just ordered some but haven’t seen anyone mention using it. Now I can’t wait to try it out. What cute shoes too.

Sally Russick August 16, 2011 at 2:00 pm

What a beautiful necklace! Your photos are wonderful!! It seems like summer is slipping by so quickly, I need a pause button!

Patty August 16, 2011 at 4:15 pm

Ha that’s the first thing I thought of was “Where’s the wire from?” : ) Beautiful necklace – I am soo addicted to wrapping it’s silly – I think it’s relaxing over and over. Two more weeks and school starts here and I get my mind back! Yippeee! Enjoy your last few days!

Stacey August 16, 2011 at 11:45 pm

That piece is GORGEOUS!!! I adore the colors – I have been drooling over that pendant since they came out – now I really need it! Your work is always sooo wonderful!

Sharon Misuraco August 18, 2011 at 9:27 am

A delightful necklace with season-spanning potential! The beach time has maybe enhanced your juices!! You must’ve stored up many memories for your family, along with pictures to remind you. Your son looking in the bucket is priceless! What’s in there, anyway?? Good to know about tumbling silver-filled wire. It’s so relaxing to work with it, not worrying about using every inch! Enjoy the rest of summer, we love it!

Lana August 19, 2011 at 7:22 am
