Hello!
How did it get to be mid-week already? I planned to write this post on Monday and look how time flies! Once Monday hits, the hours and days fly by between all of the driving, food shopping, cooking meals and afterschool activities – and everything in between. 🙂 I’m sure you don’t want to see pictures of me doing my drop off/pick up routine, so I’ll share a few from the past weekend.
The older kids went skiing with their Grandparents which meant we could take a little day trip. We went to Fredericksburg again since it’s less than 2 hours away….. taking a stroll in this historic old town is so nice, especially with the warm weather we had. Looking back on the last time I posted about Fredericksburg, I see I was focused on looking up. This time around we were looking in.
Someone being patient and silly, entertaining himself in the mirror while his Mom was looking at old jewelry in the glass cases.
Oh these two were so cute to watch from the window. They hopped in and out of their dog bed, placed right in the sun and in view of passers by.
Elvis looking out. I had a feeling I was being watched.
Many of the shop windows still had their beautiful holiday displays up.
Now for a few of my special finds! Inside the R&R Antique Mall, I met a super nice lady who was excited to unload her vintage finds from the weekend. She had bunches of enameled pins and compact cases that she was getting ready to put out in her booth. I had seen her booth many times over the last couple of years – a huge selection of vintage clothing, boots, hats and jewelry. Holly and I got to talking and it turns out she has 3 boys and a crazy love of antiquing and treasure hunting.
I made one of my favorite purchases from Holly. I pulled out a beautiful pair of earrings from her big glass case, only to turn them over to see that they were signed: Haskell. Oh what a find! A pair of Miriam Haskell earrings. I know some of you can relate to the excitement of finding such collectible vintage jewelry. Haskell’s timeless jewelry is known for its exquisite design, high-quality components and detail (such as hand-wiring each bead to a brass stamping). I’ve got this book on Miriam Haskell jewelry in my virtual shopping cart. I bought the vintage, velvet glove box from Holly as well.
Another find in the same antique mall – a sweet old jewelry holder. The lady behind the counter seemed surprised that I wanted this stand, strewn with jewelry bits, because of her damaged arms. I hardly noticed that. I love Dresden-lace style figurines, and put her to use right away with the the rhinestone jewelry finds from our day.
I’ll leave you with a bunch of roses – they smell great. I hope you have a wonderful week & as always, thank you for stopping by!
– Cindy

You know my heart is fluttering right about now =) You take the cake my friend….really! Luv ya~diane xo
When I read your posts, I am always amazed at how adventurous you are! I seem to never go anywhere!! Great photos, as usual, especially of your son!
I soooo want to plan a PA antiquing weekend with you!! Such lovely finds.
How amazing to find a pair of Miriam Haskell earrings. They are delightful.
How fun your trip sounded! My husband and I are both off Friday and are going to Fredericksburg-haven’t been in a number of months. I love Holly and have bought quite a few things from her including a wonderful turquoise and onyx ring that is among my favorites. Last time there in the same shop but different vendor got a really fun tray with scotties for my sister -thought of you when I bought it.
Kerry – this trip was actually right down 95S in VA (not PA).
Susan…please say hello to Holly for me! Have fun in Fredericksburg – the weather is supposed to be warm on Friday! 🙂
Hey Cindy, I enjoyed reading your post and hearing about your wonder finds! The photography alone is such a joy to view….
Cindy – I got shivers of excitement on your behalf regarding the Haskell earrings – I’m thrilled for you! (I know, I’m such a jewelry dork, right?) And the pics, as ever, are fantastic – my two faves for this post are the one of your youngest, and the one with you and your beloved.
I’m not going to lie – that fake Elvis freaks me out.
Cindy, we enjoyed our trip through northern PA. The many victorian towns like Warren, Oil City, Franklin….the beautufil items we found in the shops….soemtimes it is all about just viewing the old treasures. I will be eager to go back and look more! I too came home with bits and pieces of gems……now to get busy.
OK, that’s it. How have I lived here for nearly 5 years and never been to Fredericksburg? My hubby WILL be taking me soon!
I swear, you and I….one day, we’re going to meet and go on a great antiquing adventure! Hehe! Seriously, nobody wants to go with me anymore. Except my boyfriend, but he’s just being a good boyfriend cause he knows I love it so much 🙂
I REALLY love that lady jewelry holder you found-I think the damage just adds to her vintage charm ^.^
I’m scratching my head at how fast the week went. I’ve been working overtime and haven’t had time to do anything at home. And here I thought January would be calm……..
What a fun trip! You always find the most amazing treasures. I love the earrings and the pretty jewelry holder. I sure wish I had a friend to go treasure hunting with me. Hubby just doesn’t like it, which makes it no fun for me.
Enjoy the rest of your week!
I could’ve gone either way, skiing with the boys or antiquing with you! But you hit gold for sure! Those gorgeous earrings, real treasures! The jewelry holder is a “gimmme that”, quoting Juls again. I would’ve bought it in a heartbeat! Yes, you really take the cake, I liked that comment! Thank you for the lovely roses for our winter dreams!
What great pictures and great finds! I hope you are having a great New Year!
Oh Cindy, your are so great finding treasures. Absolutly love every single piece!
