Thought I’d share a few pictures from today… while my older sons are off skiing with their Grandparents for the weekend, the rest of us spent the day in our backyard. Leesburg is practically our backyard, and my favorite local place for hitting a few antique shops and a couple of good bakeries (if you know me, you know those are 2 of my favorite destinations!).
This shop always has wonderful painted furniture pieces. It seems that every time I stop in, I find myself saying,”this would make a great storage piece for my dream studio…..”
And isn’t this such a sweet picture…looks like a graduating class from 1913 – almost 100 years ago! I was intrigued by this one, and looked at each face one by one…..wondering who they were and what they were thinking. Just look at the big white bows worn by many of the girls! I read somewhere, maybe on a blog, how the writer collected old pictures of a certain theme…say for example, graduation pictures, siblings, beach scenes, weddings, boys with puppies…. I think this would be a fun! I know for one I do love pictures of sailors – young or old. Today I saw the sweetest picture of two brothers in their sailor suits…
And this last one…. It’s the Mighty Midget Kitchen. What a curious little restaurant with an equally interesting history. Would you believe it was created from a recycled piece of a WWII bomber. I read that there were several constructed by a CA company, but that this is the only one still in existence.
Sunday, January 17th is the opening day for the Richard Salley workshop!! It would be GREAT to meet you there for this brand new workshop!

The “Master of Metal” will be coming our way, to Northern Virginia! Both Jeanette and I are so excited to offer a workshop by this nationally-known artist. Many of you are familiar with this modern icon of found object art… so well respected in this community for his “wearable art” (and featured artist in the current issue of Belle Armoire Jewelry). Not only is this a rare opportunity to meet Richard, but this is a brand new workshop that he is offering as well (we are one of the first to host this one!).
“Fabulous Found Object Pendants” is a cold-connection workshop for experienced jewelry artists as well as new jewelry designers. This workshop will focus on creating a pendant using found objects (fossils, buttons, mechanical parts, old jewelry, minerals….just about anything your heart desires!). Cold connection techniques such as riveting, stapling, tabs, prongs and micro fasteners will be explored. Students will also be introduced to Faux Bone. A wealth of tips and techniques will be shared!

In a recent Beading Daily post, Jean Campbell listed a few of her favorite Beading Daily projects. I glanced over the projects and one just jumped right out… Janice Berkebile’s Jeweled Pea Pods. I’ve always admired Janice’s wirework and never tried any of her tutorials …so I clicked on over to the Interweave Store and downloaded the project. Now I must admit my pea pod didn’t turn out the best…I’ve never been one for intricate fine wire coiling….and the pod turned out too small for the pretty Thai silver beads I had hoped to use, but I like it!
I had the idea of adding 6 “peas” to the pod to represent my family…and then a Family Necklace started to come together. Just the other day I created an initial-stamped heart using copper and brass sheet metal. I was practicing riveting, something I have been wanting to learn for some time. Luckily Jeanette was kind enough to teach me the tricks to riveting recently. I also stamped some hugs and kisses {xoxo} on sterling silver sheet. I oxidized the pendants with the really amazing Liver of Sulfur Gel, tumbled the necklace in my trusty tumbler, and the project was complete!
