Bangle love

Bangles by Cindy Wimmer {sweetbeadstudio}

I’ve been on a bit of a bangle kick this past week.  It all started when I received an inquiry through Etsy, asking about a bangle design that was pinned on Pinterest.  Could I remake this one for her friend?  Well of course I could – it happens to be one of my favorites that inspired me to make several more similar designs over the years.  “Front and Center” was one of my first tutorials,  published in 2008.

My 2008 bangle design on the bottom features lampwork by Kerry Bogert.  I’m still hoarding a few more beads from that set!  Below is the custom bangle that I just sent off to CA.  It included a note from one BFF to another.  I love that I had a hand in this sweet surprise between two friends.

Now after making that bangle I wanted to make another, so I created a little collection.    I chose a lampwork focal by Moon Stumpp (and I cherish her beads even more so now that she has retired from lampwork bead making and is focusing on painting and digital art), and developed the black and brass color scheme from there.

Like the bracelets I created for the Wrapped, Stacked and Layered Bracelet Challenge last year (one of my favorite challenges to date), these bracelets can be worn separately or together .

Focus on Life – Week 3 {take time}

by Cindy on January 19, 2013

52 week badge

This week the Focusing on Life challenge words are “take time”.   How do we take time just for ourselves?  I’m looking forward to seeing what others are doing to unwind, what they like to do when given a free moment.  As for me, you see this picture of ceramic components below? You may be thinking that the answer to how I take time for myself is making jewelry.  Not exactly.

These sweet ceramic pieces have something in common…..why yes, they are all owls.   I’m a night owl.  I take time to myself by staying up late.  Very late. Most of you that know me are well aware that I’m more likely to return your email late at night than during the day.  I remember years ago, people would tell me that once I had kids I would be cured of staying up late.  Four boys and 12 years later, I’m still a night owl.  I take after my Dad and my Grandmother. 🙂 I love the quiet of the house at night…. no more checking the clock and racing out the door going to and fro, no more rush.  I love it.

To see how others are taking time, visit Sally Russick’s blog and see the Focus on Life participants here.

Have a great weekend!

– Cindy xoxo

P.S.  The ceramic owls were made by – Nan Emmett (cabachon), LeAnn Weih (bead), and Kylie Parry (pendant).

Focus on Life – Week 2 {Your Word}

by Cindy on January 12, 2013

Week 2 prompt:   Your Word (of the Year).

I’ll admit I’ve never chosen a word of the year before 2013.  In the past, I thought it seemed like the trendy thing to do so I stayed clear of joining in.  I had a change of heart this year after reading this post by Stephenie Zamora.  Stephenie wrote about selecting a guiding word. Rather than declaring resolutions, she encouraged her readers to select a word that would be their guiding focus for the year.  I could do that! I like the idea of having a theme for the year, captured in a single word. My word for the year?

Intentional (Adjective) – Done on purpose; deliberate.  Synonyms – deliberate, willful, purposeful, intended.

Intentional is an active word, it packs a bit of a punch. I like that. I’ve been thinking about my time, things that are important to me, and what I hope to accomplish.  Rather than letting life just happen, I want to work more on living with purpose.  In this post on zenhabits, you’ll read some great thoughts on intentional living.  I’m bookmarking this post as a reminder throughout the year.  Let’s make each moment count!

Intentionally yours,

Cindy 🙂
