Welcome to my little corner of the Inspire Change: Wellness Words Jewelry Challenge hosted by Tracy Statler!
A month ago, Tracy issued a jewelry-making challenge and blog hop – one with a great twist, a positive twist. In Tracy’s words, “It involves choosing a powerful word or phrase that is meaningful to you and incorporating it into a jewelry design that will serve as a reminder to make a positive change in your life. This challenge has an introspective component and a hands on component.”
Our challenge was to create a piece of jewelry that incorporates our inspirational word for 2013. You may remember that I chose a word and shared it in this post. My guiding word for 2013 is INTENTIONAL. Rather than just letting things happen, I want to make intentional decisions and intentional actions. Action versus reaction. I want to make good choices and make the most of my time. I know it is a lot to strive for, but it is a great word to guide me.
I got to thinking about how I could incorporate my guiding word in a piece of jewelry. I considered how long the word happens to be…. Hmm. Around this same time, an upcoming class came to mind. The class features a charming button, created with a lampwork cabochon and a stamped metal disc (I could stamp my word on the disc!). My friend Kerry Bogert is teaching this class, “The Wrap on Buttons“, this year at both Bead and Button and artBLISS. I asked Kerry if she would give me the skinny on how I could make one of these bracelets, and luckily she was generous with the how-tos. I think I may have provided a great trial run for her, between my bouts with leaking resin and working with the wrong type of cord (too stiff!). I learn best when I can actually see the instructions in progress, and Kerry was kind enough to text pictures to me showing some of the critical steps.

I think you picked a really wonderful word for 2013 and this project looks lovely. Thank you so much for choosing my project for such a meaningful creation. And thank you for being my “project tester” as well 🙂
I like how the words are at the back of the button. Sort of a secret reminder to yourself.
I love how you thought to stamp the buttons. Very pretty bracelets!
Your word has a similar sprit to mine. You know I love wrap bracelets too and these are really fun Cindy – this will make a great class! I also like how you stamped your word and the year on the bottom of the button. What a great subtle reminder to yourself. Thank you so much for taking the time to participate!
Cindy, I love your word, intentional and I totally agree. Action vs reaction. And the bracelet is stunning! Kerry makes the most amazing lampwork beads. I love the colors that she uses in her glass creations and you created a beautiful piece with them.
So clever! I really like how you made those buttons with the lampwork and stamping. “Intentional” is a great word for the year. Probably one that I should have chosen!
Those are awesome. I love how you added the year also. That is such a great idea. I love how your bracelets turned out and I may have to look into that class.
I’m so impressed with your perfect stamping! Kerry’s beads are gorgeous and I love your bracelets. A great way to carry your word with you. I love wrap bracelets, too, and made a couple for Christmas gifts.
I love how you stamped the year onto your button! That is a great idea Intention is a great word and having it on the back is like a secret reminder to yourself, I love that. The wrapped bracelet is beautiful too.
Very cool – love your word too!
Oh Cindy, I absolutely LOVE those bracelets! Good point about the C-Lon…I can imagine the waxed thread must not have been fun to figure-8 wrap..but the result is absolutely gorgeous! Those buttons rock!
Oh my Cindy, those are to die for! LOOOOOOOOOVE!
Very cool indeed – the bracelets (and Kerry’s beads!!) and especially your word for the year and it’s ‘intent’. Love it!!
I love your word for the year! It’s very purposeful. Mine is MOVE. I was going to do it on this challenge but life interfered. My daughter had a baby with a heart condition and baby Emme had open heart surgery at the ripe old age of 3 days. Happily she’s recovering far ahead of the milestones the doctors had set. Originally she was to be hospitalized for 6 weeks to 2 months. Now it’s looking like maybe she’ll be home in only 3 to 4 weeks! WOW! Tough times ahead though. More surgery in 6 months… We get to have the 3 yo which is great but she really misses her mom!
Intentional is a great word for 2013, and the awareness of each action will guide you to make the right decisions, which I am sure you already have achieved! Your color choices are very interesting, as I interpret the brown to be grounding, and the blues and greens represent calm and serenity. Beautiful jewelry!
Your cord might not been quite the right type, but the look is perfect!
Cindy,
Great job!! These came out beautifully! Love the use of two different color threads.
This might be a class I have to take…
I love those and your word! I will definitely look into taking that class!
I love a good secret message! What an awesome idea.
Awesome design!
Beautiful!
Great way to incorporate your word and so original.

What a super neat way to include your word in your jewelry. And those buttons really add a just enough flair to the bracelets. Nice!
Well, that was just cool how you figured out where to put your words…love that it is so out of the box! And of course, the photography is beautiful…love how you placed both buttons to show off your word and the year…what a great bridesmaid gift idea too…really lovely!
Cindy, I absolutely LOVE, love, love your bracelets!! I really like the look of the waxed cotton! I think these are so cool. Perfect way for you to incorporate your word. I’m infatuated with the wrap bracelets, too. If I were going to B&B, I would definitely want to take Kerry’s class. I’m very drawn to that and that weaving technique is one I have not tried yet myself.
Oh my! Cindy, so so gorgeous! This is something I would have absolutely no trouble wearing all the time to remind myself. I hope it serves you very well this year and beyond.
These are so pretty Cindy. The cording is a perfect complement to Kerry’s glass, and stamping the back is brilliant. These look like they’d be fun to wear.
Great word, too!
That is a pretty special word, Miss Cindy. And I do love how you represented it. I have been eyeing that class but I am unsure if it will work with my schedule. I like that the bracelets will have your word hidden so that it is meaningful to you, and just plain gorgeous to the rest of the world! I look forward to seeing how this word manifests itself for you this year! Thanks for sharing. Enjoy the day. Erin
Love these personalized buttons you’ve created! A friend recently share this quote from her pastor:
Our time is limited, so we should limit our time.
Your special word is a wonderful reminder to us all to think carefully about what we choose to give our time and energy to.
The buttons and the bracelets are so pretty. I love that you could stamp a message on the back of the button. What a great way to personalize them. I could wear a bracelet like this everyday.
I love these bracelets, especially that you are secretely wearing an inspirational word! Wonderful
I love the organic boho look of the weaving and natural fiber contrasted with the slick and shiny glass and silver. I’ll bet it is very comfortable to wear too! Gorgeous work both you an Kerry!
Great way, It is really amazing!
