Well hello!
I’m jumping in for this week’s Focus on Life Challenge. The word of the week = Typography.
I was sure I would share a picture of some old and wonderful script from an advertising sign, perhaps. The more I thought about typography in the context of my life though, I thought about a project I am working on now. My dear blog will eventually undergo a redesign – a rebranding, in fact. A couple months ago I worked with a logo designer and one of the first things I had to consider was font. Now I know typography isn’t just about font, but I couldn’t help but jump in and pour over the many font choices out there. Font line-ups are pinned constantly on Pinterest. Finding the right font for a logo is no easy task, but I narrowed it down to script. I wanted to find a script that didn’t look commercial, but drawn by hand.
I poured through script font after font and nothing jumped out at me as IT. I’m sure many of you have experienced this – trying to find the right font for your website or blog header. It has to capture your personality, your image, convey some sort of message. Talk about pressure to find the right font! My friend Kerry put me out of my misery as soon as she suggested my own signature. Now that was the perfect idea! My very first sweet bead studio logo was created using my own handwriting. Afterall, how could I critique my own handwriting – certainly it would represent me like no other commercially available font could! Of course, writing the letters exactly right is another issue all together! Luckily my handwriting sample has since been selected and turned in to vector format for future use.

Great post Cindy!! So interesting to learn that your handwriting can be turned into vector format. Great links too! Thanks so for sharing all this.
Grrr, I have struggled with that too!! You’re own handwriting is a great idea and you have Beautiful handwriting!
Lucky that you have such an attractive signature! Me, not so much!
I use my intialsin lower case for most things … You have a lovely signature!
great post! and what a great idea to use your own handwriting! I did struggle with this … I kept trying to find a font that looked old … whatever that might mean. Thanks for the links – I love your educational links 🙂
What a great idea. I have been struggling as I start my business to do this. Thank you.
What a great idea – you have beautiful writing and a very classy signature! I shall be back to check out your links – thanks for sharing.
You do have a beautiful signature and the perfect example for this week’s prompt!
Have a wonderful week 🙂
Wonderful, thank you for the links. Lovely image
Cindy, whenever I’ve gotten a card or note from you I always marvel at how wonderful your handwriting is! It’s very modern but very legible, curvy and playful. Just wonderful for your new “rebranding”.
Your handwriting is beautiful Cindy. It’s a perfect font for you.
What a brilliant post and subject for this week’s prompt. Your signature is gorgeous. . .mine’s so sloppy and all over the place. I can’t wait to see all the new re-branding to come. How exciting. Ohm and thanks for the neat links 🙂
I think your friend steered you in the right direction, as your signature is gorgeous. Also thanks for the links, especially enjoyed the “Do’s & Don’ts.”
How beautifully you! I wish I had standout writing. Funny I had the same thought this week, but chose my best friends handwriting – it’s very special to me. I had to sign my name in such a hurry over and over again with one job that my signature got flatter and flatter, it’s practically just a sguiggle now. I love your picture too
You have very beautiful hand writing!
Thanks everyone, you’re helping me to feel it is the right decision to go with my own script for my logo! 🙂
Your own signature was definitely a great way to go – it is beautiful! I can’t wait to see your whole new rebranding. Very exciting!
So true! Beautiful handwriting you have, too! Good wishes for your new blog/website.
I didn’t know they could do that. Very interesting.
I used to play with calligraphy for HOURS when I was younger – there is something very exciting playing with letters like that!
Cindy you have such lovely handwriting and I think it’s a great idea to incorporate it in your new logo.
I used to have nice handwriting but for some reason it is now nearly illegible, maybe because I’m always in a hurry……
I didn’t know you could do that either. Love it! Your handwriting is beautiful. Mine used to be very nice, but after years of using the computer I don’t seem to be able to use my pen the same way.
Great idea to use your own handwriting, especially if it is as gorgeous as yours! Font, it’s style, color and point size all have an impact on design. Whenever I create invitations, I spend days on just the spacing and point size alone!
Can’t wait to see your new design/branding! Looks like everything is falling into place beautifully. 🙂
I can see you’ve been working hard on your redesign! Thanks for all the helpful references.
Looking forward to the final reveal! If I did that it would be illegible and everyone would be saying “Whut??” LOL….too many years of signing things at work.
Your handwriting is so pretty! Have you ever done any lettering before?
