Today was special

Today was a fantastic one for our family.  Our 7 year old son celebrated his First Communion.  My little guy had been anticipating this day for so long, and when he woke up this morning he said it was the best day of his life!  I just love that excitment.   I had planned to make a rosary to give my son on this special day, and let him pick the components – the crucifix, centerpiece, and which stones to use.  I highly recommend Lewis and Company if you find yourself looking for rosary components in the future.  I really like how the cross can be engraved with the child’s name and date.  I ordered from them when I made this rosary last year.  My son chose turquoise, a stone that I do not work with often.  I was lucky to have the opportunity to hand-select the beads when I was at Bead Fest Wire a few weeks ago.

May God grant you always
A sunbeam to warm you
A moonbeam to charm you
A sheltering angel so nothing can harm you
Laughter to cheer you
Faithful friends near you
And whenever you pray
Heaven to hear you.

It’s so wonderful you made your son’s rosary. I remember when my two made their first communions, how excited the whole family was and how great they felt that they could receive communion at mass every week after that!

The rosary is a wonderful way to commemorate such a special day. I’m sure it will be cherished and become a special family heirloom for your son. Your children look so wonderfully happy. I love seeing that.

What a beautiful rosary that your son will always cherish, made with love by his Mom. I remember when my son made his first communion, it indeed was a special day. Thanks for sharing!

Wonderful! Congratulations!
My son looked so handsome in his suit…shades of days to come.
And my daughter was radiant in her white dress. So grown up. She wore the veil I made for the eldest Hintz grandchild…about 17 years ago!
My nephew and godson will be making First Communion on May 8th and I am making a rosary for him. Thanks for the tip on where to get the components, wish I had known that as I just got mine from Shipwreck Beads.

Enjoy the day!

Cindy,
This is just the sweeeeetest post ever! I love how you captured him praying with his crucifix~that is priceless! And, the simple act of letting him choose his components, well that will always be a special remembrance for him! You are one fine mother, and I sooo enjoyed talking on Saturday night. It was the best part of my weekend =))))
I love the prayer, it warmed my heart! Take care my friend…

Cindy…congrats to your son! The rosary is beautiful and the sweet photo of him with it put a lump in my throat. I like Lewis & Sons as well…I get components from them occasionally…another place you might like is http://equatoriaworld.com …they handcast vintage pieces in silver and bronze. I use them a lot 🙂

Aw, that just makes my heart smile!! I really love the fact that you MADE your son his rosary and allowed him to pick out his own components-That makes it SO much more special and personal and I bet he will be relying on that particular piece often in the future 🙂

Congratulations to your little guy on his very special day!

kella April 26, 2010 at 6:51 pm

How lovely you were able to make his first rosery, I’m sure he’ll treasure them forever.

Christine Damm April 27, 2010 at 5:36 am

Cindy, thanks for the sweet photos– so inspirational! It’s a blessing to have children that seek a spiritual life in their early years, so they have that to rely on the rest of their lives. And in no small part due to the example set by you and your husband. Good job! And the rosary is beautiful– wonderful work by you, as always!

Madeline April 28, 2010 at 1:56 am

Oh Cindy! How special is that?!! I love this sweet post, and especially the picture of your dear son on his special day. Both our boys had their first communions, but now it seems so long ago (4 years) :o( It’s such a lovely time, that age. Enjoy each and every minute!
