Good Things

by Cindy on May 3, 2012

This post is all about Good Things.  Yes, I’m happy to have a few good things to share today.  For one, the sun is out and after an overcast, rather dreary week, that is a Great Thing.

Now let’s go straight to the Big artBLISS Giveaway! Jeanette and I were both so thankful to all of you who shared the news about our event on Twitter, Facebook, and on your blogs.  Many of you have already registered – YIPPPEEE!  That means we’ll meet you in September, if we haven’t already met.  We know you’ll have a fabulous time, learn all sorts of cool things, and connect with many like-minded art sisters (and a few brothers!).  If you have any questions at all about the event, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Without further ado….

Congrats to the lucky winners & thanks to all that entered the giveaway!

It’s been one of a whirlwind week in our house, one of those times when you feel like everything is happening all at once.  I hope I’m slowing down enough to enjoy the moments because they have been so meaningful and what, to me, life is all about. I’m talking about family events.

See this little guy?

After his game and a school Fun Fair, he changed from his uniform in to a dapper little suit.  It was his First Communion, after months of preparation with his class and his wonderful teacher.  Remember when we were figuring out what beads to chose for his rosary?  We ended up going with his birthstone, and I picked up the Swarovski crystals in person at Bead Fest. It was my 3rd time ordering an engraved crucifix and centerpiece from Lewis & Company (highly recommend them). I made rosaries for my older sons as well, and posted about them here and here.

And another Good Thing….

We found a way to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and daily routine…..  head to the country!  We joined my sister for an afternoon at the barn.  Nikki travels from DC out to the barn three times a week to visit her sweet horse, Deuce.  We enjoyed the sunshine, handing out carrot treats, and seeing a brand new foal.

After our visit with the horses, we went on a stroll in nearby Middleburg and enjoyed lunch at one of Nikki’s favorite cafes. We stopped in a wonderful bakery, The Upper Crust of Middleburg (sorry, no website) – an absolute must if you’re in the area – for treats, including a fabulous pie called a “doughboy”….a two-crust apple and caramel pie.  Yum!

Thank you for stopping by and letting me share my Good Things with you.  I hope your week is filled with many Good Things too! 🙂

Hi Cindy,
I always enjoy visiting your site, hearing about things that you all do and places you go. So exciting, some of the things that keep you and the bunch busy. These are all fantastic pictures and I enjoy looking at every one of the. The rosary is absolutely beautiful. Something he will have all of his life.
Thank you for sharing your family field trips and the communion. Tell all that I miss and love them. Love Cindy

What a lovely first communion! I was wondering what you two had decided on — the shark teeth were definitely an interesting choice! And I really liked seeing where the horse lives (and that cat, I just want to take it home!). I wish I could ride, but I’ve only been on a horse once and let’s just say it didn’t work out!

Congratulations again!

First of all, thanks go to you and Jeanette for the generous bag of goodies!!!! I feel so blessed! I cannot wait for September! Speaking of blessed, your rosary … all of the rosaries you have made…are so beautiful. My Mom made each of the girls in the family (2 daughters, 2 daughter in laws, and 5 grand-daughters) rosary bracelets – I frequently wear it to church. You really need to look into doing a book on photography (in your spare time [ha!]) because your pictures are priceless! Your family is beautiful – thank you so much for sharing with us!

Congrats to your son on his First Communion! I also love Lewis and Company, buy the center pieces to make our rosaries (so many choices)! Thank you for sharing your fun filled days, I miss riding and I miss working with horses. Love the photo of the pony kisses and peek-a-boo with the cat 🙂 The ‘doughboy’ pie sounds wonderful!

Congratulations to Chandler for his first Communion, he and all the boys look so handsome! I love the picture of the 2 of you together and that rosary is stunning! It amazes me how much you can fit into a weekend, looks like a fun time and your pics are gorgeous! I love the one with the horse in the stall, you can see him watching you out of the corner of his eye, great shot!

Congratulations to your son on his First Communion and to the winners. The Rosary was beautiful and something he will cherish forever. I have made some very special ones also as well as Rosary bracelets but don’t think I have ever used Lewis – I will check them out. Usually go to Rosary Maker’s of Louisville since that is what I grew with. Your boys are so handsome and I loved the pic of your husband and the boys. Thank you for the pics.

congrats to the winners.
your rosary is quite lovely! i never thought of making my own for my boys. i’m just not that organized, lol.
thanks for sharing your family photos, all beautiful!

I love that rosary you made (all of them). I received my mom’s old rosary after she died and when a favorite niece got married (and converted to Catholicism), I gave her that rosary. We both cried a bit for missing my mom (her grandmom), and she for loving the gift. She carried it in her hands with her bouquet during the marriage and talked many times after about how meaningful that was to her. Tradition. Your guys will treasure those forever.
Loved ALL your pictures. You’re a wonderful photographer. The pictures really give the essence of your time so beautifully and succinctly. Lovely.
This comment is coming to you from sunny Los Angeles! We made it. Not in our apartment yet but that will happen over the weekend. That Ruby girl is delighting us no end. And getting to see my daughter all the time is so fabulous.
Should have sent all this in an email. Sorry!

Congratulations to JoAnna, Dawn, Patti & Carol. Lucky gals!

It’s neat to see what you settled on for the Rosary. The green crystals are really pretty. What a neat milestone for you and your family.

Your horse country pictures are beautiful! Looks like everyone had a great time – you and your sister look so much alike!

Alice May 4, 2012 at 1:46 pm

I’m always excited to see photos of your boys and of your adventures. We are so busy and never seem to have the time to go on little jaunt like we used to. So I feel like I’m tagging along with you and your family.

The Rosary is just wonderful, and such a special piece that will be cherished and hopefully handed down for years to come. And I love the photos of Nikki and Deuce. I’ve always loved horses, and had a pony when I was young. There are times I wish we had more land so we could have horses, but then I remember I barely have time to do the things I need to do–and horses take a lot of time and attention.

Thanks for sharing your sweet adventures! Have a wonderful weekend!

Love, Love, Love all your beautiful pictures! How fun to see your family out on the farm. The rosary you made is absolutely gorgeous (and my birthstone too). My very favorite was to see the sweet “Mommy & Son” pic at his First Communion. You two look so sweet and I couldn’t help but notice the coordinating outfits. LOVE!

Well, first of all, congratulations to all the winners of your amazing contest! I remember seeing it and wanting to enter, but time just got away from me o.O

Second, many congratulations to your son on his First Holy Communion! That’s a wonderful thing to have gone through (I vaguely remember mine back when I was 7 or 8) 🙂

Oh, and the rosary is absolutely GORGEOUS! I love how all your sons are similar, but different.

It looks like you guys had a wonderful outing to the country 🙂

Brandi May 6, 2012 at 3:07 pm

You guys look enjoy the day very much.

How did I miss this post? The rosary turned out great. It is nice that it is green – he will remember his time at St. Luke once he has moved on. I thought of you all this morning when Mom went off to mass at St. John and wondered if you all were there. It seems like forever since I have seen you.
