A stunning season in Colonial Virginia

by Cindy on November 25, 2013

Hello!

All it took was the power of suggestion.  Well it may have been a bit more than that – we had been hearing all about Jamestown, the first permanent English Colony, for weeks.   My 4th grader’s class had been studying Jamestown in-depth as part of their Virginia history unit.  We love trips down to this part of Virginia (posts here, here and here) so we decided to head south and go for the weekend.  With Thanksgiving coming up this week, I thought it might be nice share pictures from the land discovered in 1607, 13 years before the pilgrims arrived in Massachusetts.

Thanks for sharing. Looks like a nice trip. Those uniforms are great. Glad you got to see those. Started cracking up when I came to the helmets. How cute. Your youngest has the funniest expressions (the peek over the brother’s shoulder in the candy shop too).

Hope you get to spend your Thanksgiving with family.

Beautiful photos 🙂 When we lived in VA we visited Williamsburg several times, but never made it to Jamestown.

Looks like so much fun! We took our girls to Williamsburg several years back and it is such a lovely little town with tons of history. Perhaps next time we’ll have to add Jamestown!

What a perfect place to visit with Thanksgiving coming up. It looks like everyone had fun. I love that your boys are up for most anything, especially if candy or ice cream is involved. I love your photos and will be adding this to my huge list if places I want to visit.

Cindy, ever since we started re-enacting I’ve wanted to visit Jamestown and definitely Williamsburg– thanks for the virtual tour! Such nice shots, I feel as though I was really there. Those Rev War uniforms made me feel right at home too– looked like some of my weekends spent with our group. John Smith wasn’t very accurate with his prediction about Jamestown though, was he. I would have loved to check out that ship– 4 1/2 months on that with the crew as well. And all the animals. It’s amazing what they went through to settle here and start new lives. It’s worth remembering.
